Mahopac, NY – Saturday, September 15, 2018 will go down as an historic one in the annals of Wagner College athletics as it marked the first day of competition for the Seahawks' newly-formed women's triathlon program and it was a resounding debut as the Green & White swept the top six places in the sixth annual Tyathlon.
Graduate student
Fabia Maramotti paced the Green & White with the day's top finish by a female competitor, a time of 56:21, completing the swim in 6:39, the bike in 28:10, and the run in 19:14.
A pair of Seahawk freshmen,
Anna Carrion i Barea and
Yasmin Rieger, were the second and third-highest female finishers with Barea recording a time of 58:29 while Rieger was right behind at 58:45.
Rounding out the Seahawk top-six female finishers were freshman
Kabrina Weaver (4th-best female time/21st overall place - 1:03:09), junior
Emily Upton (5th-best female time/23rd overall place – 1:04.32) and graduate student
Maddie McNichol (6th-best female time/26th overall place - 1:05:00).
"These results show that our team is dominating right out of the gate -- we swept this race," said head coach Marya Courvayes. "We had six women start, and they took the top six places. It's a promising start to our season, and we are looking forward to our first draft legal races coming up in the next few weeks."
The first of these draft legal races takes place this Sunday, September 23, when the Seahawks compete in the
West Regional Qualifier in Longmont, CO.
