Game 1 - Wagner 2, Central Connecticut 0
In a close matchup early on, the Seahawks took full advantage of their scoring opportunities and went ahead in the third inning.
Following an error to lead off the inning that allowed junior
Karen Prihoda to reach safely, sophomore
Zoe Bender singled. After senior
Stefanie Aplin laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners, junior
Jessica Carlucci came through with the go-ahead single to score Prihoda.
Next up, sophomore
Kaila Smith doubled the Wagner lead with another RBI single, scoring Bender in what proved to be the last run of the contest.
Senior
Morgan Brown earned the complete game shutout victory, allowing just four hits and striking out a season-high 10 batters, while the defense did not commit an error compared to the Blue Devils' three.
The Seahawks out-hit CCSU 6-4 throughout the contest, with Prihoda, Bender, Carlucci, Smith, senior
Maite Reece, and junior
Lauren Serrato each recording a hit in the contest.
Game 2 – Central Connecticut 2, Wagner 1
The Seahawks led the way in hits for the second straight contest, recording seven base knocks compared to the Blue Devils' three.
CCSU opened the scoring in another low-scoring game in the third inning on an RBI groundout by Brittany Camara, but the Green and White did not go away quietly.
In the sixth inning, a leadoff single by Bender and a walk to Smith set up Reece, who brought in the tying run with an RBI single up the middle.
Wagner, however, could not plate the go-ahead run, leaving the bases loaded. The Blue Devils then won it in the seventh inning on a solo shot by Sydney Bolan.
Sophomore
Hannah Lewis was the only Seahawk to record a multi-hit game, as Bender, Aplin, Smith, Carlucci, and Reece all had one hit apiece.
Freshman
Arielle Koerber struck out seven batters and only allowed one earned run, but was charged with the loss.
The Seahawks will be back in action tomorrow, as they travel to Bryant for their second consecutive NEC doubleheader, with first pitch set for 1 pm.
