Woodbridge, NJ – The Wagner women's tennis team suffered its first defeat of the season in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, falling to the Sacred Heart University Pioneers, 6-1, on Friday afternoon.
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to .500 at 6-6 and 3-1 in conference action while the Pioneers improve to 7-10 and remain a perfect 3-0 in league matches.
The Pioneers swept through doubles action by taking all three matches in securing the first point of the match.
In singles action, SHU secured the first four singles matches in securing the overall win.
At No. 5 singles, senior
Brenda Cumpa had the lone Seahawk victory on the afternoon, besting Laura Crivei, 2-6; 6-4; 10-3.
The Seahawks gear up for their final two home matches of the regular season as they first take on LIU Brooklyn in the final regular season conference match on April 15.
Two days, Wagner plays host to Monmouth University in the regular season finale on Senior Day on April 17.
