Moon Township, PA –
Behind hat tricks from senior midfielder Lauren Ednie, the reining Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week, and junior attack Marjorie Dehm, the Wagner women's lacrosse team earned a 12-9 win at Robert Morris in the league opener for both teams on Friday afternoon.

In addition to jumping out to 1-0 in the NEC, the Seahawks improve to 6-4 overall on the season while the Colonials fall to 4-7, 0-1 in league.

After Wagner jumped out to an early 5-1 lead, RMU clawed back with a 3-0 run to make it a 5-4 game before the Seahawks closed the half with a 2-1 spurt in taking a 7-5 lead at the break.

The Green & White then took control of the game by opening the second half on a 5-0 run in building a comfortable 12-5 lead. RMU closed the game with four answered goals but it was too little, too late, as the Green & White held on for the 12-9 win.

Coming off a six-point effort in Wagner's 14-10 win over Columbia on March 28, which included a career-tying five-goal game, over Columbia on March 28, Ednie led the Seahawks today with four points as she added an assist to her three goals.
Dehm's three-goal outing gave her three points for the game, while senior attack Heidi Colford and junior attack Anna Belle Reilly matched Dehm's three-point game by totaling two goals and one assist apiece. Finishing with one goal each for the Seahawks were senior midfielder April Simmons and sophomore attack Stephanie Falcone

Sophomore defender Giace Vitolo paced Wagner in ground balls with six while junior defender Megan Drum was the team-leader in draw controls with three. Senior Lucy Darlington came up with nine first-half saves in recording the win before classmate Kelsey Fee came on to record five second-half saves.

Statistically, RMU held the edge in shots (33-25) and draw controls (12-11), while the Seahawks held a 25-19 advantage in ground balls.

The Seahawks will play their second game of this Western Pennsylvania swing on Sunday, April 8 when Wagner and Saint Francis U square off in Loretto at 1:00 p.m.

NOTES: Earlier in the day, Ednie was named an honorary Seahawk captain, joining Darlington and Reilly who were named team captains prior to the season.
