Men’s Lacrosse Falls at Mount St. Mary’s In Season Finale

The Wagner men's lacrosse team dropped a 16-3 decision to Mount St. Mary's in the season finale for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium.

With the loss, the Seahawks conclude the 2018 campaign with an overall record of 4-10, 0-6 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, while the Mountaineers finish with a mark of 5-9, 2-4 in league play.

After the Mount surged to a 10-0 halftime lead, junior midfielder Spencer Kaufman put Wagner on the board at the 11:30 mark of the third quarter off an assist from freshman midfielder Tyler Grady.

Wagner's other two goals were fourth-quarter scores from Joe Lomeili, off a feed from fellow senior midfielder, JP Pawela, and senior attackman Andrew Streilein, off an assist from freshman defenseman Kyle Stofko.

Stephano Mastro paced the Mount in goals with five, in addition to two assists. The leading scorer on the day for the Mountaineers was Brendan McCarthy who finished with 11 points on two goals and a whopping nine assists. Chris DiPietro added three goals while Henry Berg chipped in with two.

In goal, Matt Vierheller gained the win, recording five saves and allowing three goals in 52:47 of action. For Wagner, junior Matt Sefcik recorded 10 saves over the game's first 49:16 before giving way to junior Omar Alhagiko who stopped two shots over the final 10:14.

The Mount held the statistical edge in shots (48-25), groundballs (39-27) and faceoffs (15-8).

With his one goal today, Streilein winds up his four-year career ranked No. 1 all-time at Wagner in goals (92), assists (58) and points (150), while senior defenseman Andrew Park was credited with two caused turnovers on the day in finishing his career with a Seahawk record 87 CTs.
