Staten Island, NY- The Wagner women's tennis team closed out the 2017-18 regular season with a 6-1 victory on Senior Day over the Monmouth University Hawks at the Wagner Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon.

Prior to this afternoon's contest, the Seahawks recognized their three seniors:
Brenda Cumpa, Carolyn Gibson and
Samantha Hodges. Wagner finished the year at 7-8 while Monmouth concludes the regular season at 5-14.

Wagner swept through doubles play, securing the first point in the overall match. Senior

Fellow classmates
Brenda Cumpa and
Carolyn Gibson bested Alexandra Graff and Caroline Mattise, 6-3 at No. 2. Sophomore
Vedika Anand and junior
Rina Baynes were victorious at No. 1, defeating Sophia Fredriksson and Maria Ivanova, 6-3.

In singles action, the Seahawks took five of the six singles matches. Anand bested Graff, 6-1; 6-0 at No. 1. For Anand, she recorded her 11th singles victory of the season to lead the Seahawks. Baynes was also victorious by a 6-1; 6-0 scored over Fredriksson at No. 2. The victory marked the 20th of her Seahawk career.

Hodges clinched the match for the Green & White. After earning a 6-1 first set win, Hodges was in a back-and-forth contest with Gabriel at No. 3 before the veteran Seahawk ended the match with an ace as she went on for the 6-4 win.

Wagner turns its attention to the postseason, as they will be the No. 7 seed in the 2018 Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament, which begins on Friday, April 20 at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ.Â

The Seahawks will be pitted against the No. 2 seed, Bryant University Bulldogs. The match is set to begin at 11:30 am. Â Â
