West Windsor, NJ – The Wagner women's tennis team's season ended on Friday afternoon, as the No. 7 seeded Seahawks were blanked by the No. 2 seed, Bryant University Bulldogs, 5-0, at the Mercer County Tennis Center.
The Green & White finish the 2017-18 campaign at 7-9 while the Bulldogs, who move on to Saturday's semifinals against the No. 6 seeded, Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers, stand at 10-8.
The Bulldogs secured the first point in the overall match after taking wins at No. 2 & No. 3 doubles play. In singles action, Bryant took all four singles matches in advancing to the semifinals.
For Wagner, this afternoon's match marked the final collegiate competition for seniors
Samantha Hodges, Carolyn Gibson and
Brenda Cumpa. Hodges finishes her four-year Seahawk career with the fourth-most career singles victories with 23. Additionally, Hodges is now second in school history with 30 career doubles wins.
Cumpa, who transferred from West Virginia State University prior to the 2016 season, finishes her two-year career with 20 singles wins, 12 of which coming out of the No .5 position. Gibson concludes her Seahawk tenure with 16 career doubles wins, eighth all-time since 2004.
