Bethpage, NY – The Wagner women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 setback at Hofstra on Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks battled hard in every match but were unable to secure a point against the Pride.
Â
The loss moves Wagner to 4-3 on the year while Hofstra improves to 3-2, after falling to LIU Brooklyn, 4-3, earlier in the morning.
Â
Hofstra downed Wagner in the doubles matches but not without resistance from the Green & White. In No. 3 doubles, the team of seniors
Brenda Cumpa and
Carolyn Gibson stayed toe-to-toe with the pairing of Ana Cacahuate-Torres/Meheq Khokhar before the Hofstra duo was able to outlast Cumpa/Gibson, 7-6 (7-5).
Â
In singles play, the Seahawks were extremely competitive, recording points in all six matches. Hodges was able to take Cacahuate-Torres to the limit, needing tie-breakers in both sets before falling 7-6 (7-1); 7-6 (7-1) at No. 4 play. Â Sophomore
Melanie Post was edged by Khokhar, 7-5; 6-3, while junior
