Easton, PA – In the first match of the spring season for the Wagner women's tennis team, the Seahawks were shutout by Patriot League members, Bucknell, 7-0, on Saturday morning.
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 3-2 on the season while the Bison improves to 4-1 on the year.
The Green & White was in a back-and-forth match at No. 3 doubles as the duo of seniors
Brenda Cumpa and
Carolyn Gibson took on Danielle Gannon and Jill Auteri. Gannon/Auteri was able edge out Cumpa/Gibson, 7-6.
The Seahawks displayed a "never surrender" mentality throughout the contest, as Cumpa and La Barge Schuyler were engaged in a see-saw match at No.5. Despite dropping the first set, 6-2, the Lima, Peru native and Schuyler were tied at 6-6 before Schuyler was able to get past Cumpa, 7-3, in tiebreaker.
Wagner will have a short turnaround as they travel to Jersey City, NJ to tangle with Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) members, Saint Peter's, on Sunday, February 11. The match is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
