With the win, the Green & White improve to 13-6 overall and 6-2 in the NEC while the Colonials fall to 12-9 and are also now 6-2 in league play as Wagner and RMU jointly own a one-game lead over Saint Francis U and St. Francis Brooklyn league standings. The victory moves Wagner's perfect home record to 10-0, which matches the 2001-02 Seahawks for the best 10-game start in league history.
Senior guard
JoJo Cooper added 11 points and 12 rebounds, along with a game-high seven assists, in recording his second straight double-double, sixth of the season, and 10
th of his career. Also contributing 11 points on the afternoon was redshirt junior guard
Romone Saunders, who added eight rebounds.
Today's win was career victory No. 100 for sixth-year head coach
Bashir Mason, who is currently the sixth-youngest head coach in Division I. Mason, whose career record at Wagner is 100-75, is just the fifth Seahawk head coach to post 90 or more career victories and the third in the Division I Era of the program. He is also just the third Wagner head coach to ever record 100 victories.
The 49 points scored and 27.3 percent shooting (18-of-66) by Robert Morris are both season lows.
After jumping out to a 32-25 halftime lead, both teams went scoreless for the first 3:27 following intermission before Saunders converted an old-fashioned three-point play, giving Wagner a 35-25 lead. Dachon Burke hit a layup with 10:33 remaining to draw RMU within seven points at 43-36.
The Seahawks then embarked on a pivotal 13-2 run over the next five minutes, capped by a Francis three-pointer, that opened the Wagner lead to 18 at 56-38 with just 5:40 left.
Koby Thomas paced the Colonials with 16 points while Burke and Leondre Washington added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Wagner shot 47 percent from the field for the game while RMU held a 48-39 edge in the rebounding department.
Junior guard
Devin Liggeons opened today's scoring with a corner three-pointer. RMU went up three with a pair of baskets from McConnell and Burke to go ahead three, 6-3, before Wagner responded with an 8-3 outburst in taking an 11-9 lead at the under-16 media timeout.
The Colonials answered with five of the next seven points in taking a 14-13 lead before the Seahawks closed out the first half on a 19-11 spurt in taking the 32-25 halftime lead, with Francis serving as the catalyst with seven of the 19 points.
Wagner shot a blistering 54.2 percent from the floor in the opening half while holding the Colonials to just 32.3 percent from the field. Francis and Cooper each finished with seven points in the opening stanza while Cooper dished out a half-high five assists in 19 minutes of action.
