Michael Carey signed his first professional contract,
signing with Soles de Santo Domingo of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto in the Dominican Republic back on June 14, and has seen action in seven games this with the Soles.
Carey, who finished his collegiate career this past season with a slew of accolades, scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds during a 26-minute stint in an 112-102 setback to Reales LV back on June 13. On June 16, the 6-5 guard had a breakout contest.
In 39 minutes of play, the Nassau, Bahamas native netted 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field while grabbing five rebounds, despite his team dropping a 93-91 decision to Metros STGO.
During his two-year tenure on Grymes Hill, Carey scored in double figures in 47 games, hitting for 20 or more points 13 times and pulling down ten or more rebounds in 31 games while leading the Seahawks on the boards in 42 contests. He also became just the fourth player in Wagner men's basketball history to record 20 double-doubles or more for a career, as he finished his playing career with 27.
The versatile 6'5" wing started all 30 games for the Seahawks in 2016-17 and played an integral role on a Seahawk team that qualified for the NEC postseason tournament for the seventh consecutive season and fifth straight under head coach
Bashir Mason. In NEC contests during the 2016-17 regular season, Carey averaged 13.8 points per game while grabbing a team-high 9.6 rebound per game.
This past season, Carey garnered Third Team All-Metropolitan honors from the Met Basketball Writers Association while also claiming First-Team and All-Tournament Northeast Conference (NEC) honors, in addition to being voted to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 18 First Team.
