Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's tennis team dropped a Northeast Conference (NEC) tilt, 6-1, to the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights on Sunday morning.

With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 9-6 overall, and 3-2 in league play while the Knights even their overall record at 7-7 and improve to 3-1 in league matches.

Fairleigh Dickinson took two of three doubles matches in the morning. Junior Brenda Cumpa (Lima, Peru/Carmelitas [West Virginia State University]) and senior Madison Pautsch (Costa Mesa, CA/Edison) were victorious in No. 3 via default.

The Knights also took five of the six singles matches. Junior Samantha Hodges (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy) was able to take the first set 3-6 but couldn't come back in the second, being edged by Liza Rachenko, 7-6 (7-2), in setting up a third set in which Hodges fell 10-6.

Pautsch was credited with a victory via default in No. 6 singles. The fourth-year Seahawk is still one win short of matching Brittany Frazza, who posted 28 singles and would be the most since the Northeast Conference (NEC) has kept stats (2005).

Wagner will be in action on Monday, April 10, as they continue conference play as the Seahawks host LIU Brooklyn at 2:00 p.m. from the Wagner Tennis Courts.
