Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's tennis team dropped a Northeast Conference (NEC) tilt, 6-1, to the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights on Sunday morning.
Â
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 9-6 overall, and 3-2 in league play while the Knights even their overall record at 7-7 and improve to 3-1 in league matches.
Â
Fairleigh Dickinson took two of three doubles matches in the morning. Junior
Brenda Cumpa (Lima, Peru/Carmelitas [West Virginia State University]) and senior
Madison Pautsch (Costa Mesa, CA/Edison) were victorious in No. 3 via default.
Â
The Knights also took five of the six singles matches. Junior
Samantha Hodges (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy) was able to take the first set 3-6 but couldn't come back in the second, being edged by Liza Rachenko, 7-6 (7-2), in setting up a third set in which Hodges fell 10-6.Â
Â
Pautsch was credited with a victory via default in No. 6 singles. The fourth-year Seahawk is still one win short of matching Brittany Frazza, who posted 28 singles and would be the most since the Northeast Conference (NEC) has kept stats (2005).
Â
Wagner will be in action on Monday, April 10, as they continue conference play as the Seahawks host LIU Brooklyn at 2:00 p.m. from the Wagner Tennis Courts.
