Nine Straight Victories:
The three-time defending MAAC champions went 4-0 last week, collecting wins over Iona, Marist, La Salle, and VMI. The program secured its ninth straight victory on April 2, narrowly defeating VMI, 10-8. The Seahawks have swept both series with Marist and Iona, while they have defeated each of the other five league members on one occasion.
Previewing Wagner-La Salle:
The Seahawks defeated first-year program, La Salle, 21-2 on April 1 in the programs' first-ever meeting. Each field player netted goals for the Green & White as well as senior goalkeeper,
Emily Riddle (Edmonton, Alberta / Dr. E.P. Scarlett). Defensively, Riddle and fellow goalie
Anna Ward (Grayslake, IL / Mundelein) held the Explorers scoreless in the first half, while the Seahawks combined for a season-high 18 steals.
Previewing Wagner-Siena:
The Saints recently defeated La Salle and St. Francis Brooklyn on April 2 before losing back-to-back midweek contests to No. 24 Marist. Wagner buried Siena 19-2 in their first matchup on March 25 behind hat tricks from
Lacey Anderson (Thousand Oaks, CA / Westlake),
Erica Hardy (Montreal, Quebec / St. Thomas), and
Kimberly Watson (Pointe-Claire, Quebec / John Renne). Once again, the Seahawks' offense will look to get past reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week, senior goalie Carly Jackson-Clark who turned away 21 shots in the Saints' 2-0 shutout win over St. Francis Brooklyn.
Previewing Wagner-VMI:
Wagner snapped VMI's four-game winning streak on April 2, edging the Keydets 10-8. The Green & White outscored VMI 4-1 in the opening quarter before VMI slowly chipped away at Wagner's lead throughout the remaining three stanzas. Despite 12 saves from MAAC Rookie of the Week, Isabel French, the Seahawks' offense overcame the Keydets behind five goals from junior utility
Kimberly Watson.
MAAC Championship On The Horizon:
The Seahawks have earned one of four spots in the 2017 MAAC Championship after Siena suffered a 15-7 loss to No. 24 Marist on Wednesday, April 5. For Wagner, it marks the fifteenth consecutive season in which they have qualified for the postseason, a span which started in their first season of competition back in 2003. Hosted by Marist College, the championship will be contested on April 29 and 30 in Poughkeepsie, NY. The Green & White will look to become a seven-time league champion, while clinching its fourth straight MAAC championship under head coach
Chris Radmonovich.
Senior Day Recognition:
The Wagner College Athletic Department will recognize the 2017 Senior Class before their 10:30 am contest with Siena on April 9. Among the Class of 2017 is four-year starting goalie,
Emily Riddle as well as attackmen
Gabryel Oloapu and
Amanda Sutherland. Also, the Seahawks will recognize
Madison Lyon, who served as the team's undergraduate manager over the past four seasons. Collectively, the senior class has won three straight MAAC Championships, two MAAC regular season titles, and a total 97 career games. As two-time MAAC All-Academic honorees, the trio contributed to Wagner water polo earning the Associate of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches' (ACWPC) highest GPA in the nation for five consecutive years.
