Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College baseball team used 12 hits and scored 12 runs to shutout the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, 12-0, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Seahawks split their season series with the Blackbirds and improve to 14-21 and 6-8 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play while the Blackbirds fall to 17-20 and 7-11 in league contests.

Senior co-captain RHP Danny Marsh (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) turned in a masterful outing, throwing eight shutout innings, allowing just six hits, a walk and setting a new career-high with 11 strikeouts en route to posting his fifth win of the season (5-1).

Freshman reliever RHP Nick Robino (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum School) finished the ballgame, giving up a hit and striking out a batter.

Every Seahawk starter recorded at least one hit on the afternoon. Freshman 1B Nick D'Amore (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti), junior 2B Kyle Brey (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) and junior SS Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Salesianum School [DE]) led the way with two hits apiece.

D'Amore and junior RF Kyle Cala (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) had three RBIs apiece. Junior LF Anthony Godino (Thornwood, NY/Pleasantville) and sophomore CF Joe Silvestrone (Manalapan, NJ/Freehold Township) each drove in two RBIs while Mazzio and sophomore 3B Anthony Pecora (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) each drove in a run.

For LIU Brooklyn, Charles Misiano led the way at the dish, going 2-of-4. Joe Mercadante, Luis Arias, Sam Vega-Fox, Harrison Preschel and Andrew Smith all had a hit for the Blackbirds. Starter Jackson Svete lasted three innings in taking the loss, falling to 5-2 on the season.

The Green & White kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the second as Godino connected on his second home run of the season, a towering shot that sailed high over the left field wall, giving Wagner a 1-0 lead. With one out, Pecora walked and stole second before coming into score as D'Amore doubled down the right field line in giving the Seahawks a 2-0 edge.

With two outs in the bottom of the third, Wagner tacked on three more runs to go up 5-0. Sophomore catcher Phil Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) singled to short, and Godino walked. Both moved up on a successful double steal attempt. With the count showing at 2-2, Cala tripled to center field, clearing the bases before coming around to score on a Silvestrone single to left center.

The Seahawks scored once again in the bottom of the fourth, extending its lead to 6-0 as with two outs, Mazzio ripped a single deep in the hole that was fielded by Misiano, allowing Brey to cross the plate after he doubled down the left field line.

Marsh continued to dominate on the mound. He allowed a leadoff single off to Preschel to start the fifth.  With the count at 1-2, Marsh got Anthony Capo on a popup back to the mound. Marsh corralled the ball and fired a strike to D'Amore at first, doubling off Preschel.  Marsh closed out the stanza with his sixth strikeout of the contest.
The Monroe Township, NJ native opened the sixth with back-to-back strikeouts of Smith and Misiano and retired the side on a flyout to center.

In the Blackbirds' half of the seventh, Arias reached on an infield single to third. Marsh was able to retire Joe Curcio on strikes for the second out of the inning. The lone walk Marsh allowed was to Preschel before Marsh struck out Capo for his ninth punchout of the game.

Wagner put the game out of reach in the bottom of the seventh, sending 11 batters to the plate while scoring six runs on just hits in taking a 12-0 lead.

With one out, Mazzio doubled to left center, which ended LIU's Matt Ornstein's afternoon (3.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K). Freshman designated hitter Eric Lauk (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) stepped in to face William Jackson III and drew the count to 3-1 before roping a single to left center. Jackson then hit Capra on a 1-0 pitch, loading the bases.

Jackson hit his second straight batter in Godino, which plated the seventh run and walked Cala as Wagner went ahead 8-0. Following several defensive changes for the visitors, Anthony Capo walked Silvestrone on four pitches to give the home team its ninth run.

Pecora was next and singled to center, scoring Godino in building the lead to 10-0. D'Amore cleared the bases with a 0-2 single back up the middle, bringing home Silvestrone and Cala for the game's final runs.

The Blackbirds had a chance to score their first run in the top of the eighth. With one out, two straight hits from Smith and Misiano gave LIU runners on first and second. Dom Paiotti reached on fielder's choice, which put runners on the corner with two outs. In a lengthy eight-pitch sequence, Marsh was able to get out of the inning, striking out Mercadante for his 11th strikeout of the afternoon.

The Seahawks will head back on the road as they first take on Big Ten members, Rutgers, on May 2 in Piscataway, NJ at 1:00 p.m and close out the short road trip with NEC-play in Teaneck, NJ in taking on Fairleigh Dickinson, May 5 through May 7.
