New Haven, CT - The Wagner College baseball team posted its fifth win in its last six games, taking game one of Saturday's doubleheader, 6-1, over the Sacred Heart University Pioneers.
With the victory, the Green & White improved to 11-18 and 3-5 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play while Sacred Heart falls to 12-24 and 5-5 in league contests.
Eight of the nine Seahawk starters had at least one hit with sophomore catcher
Phil Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) going 4-of-5 with two RBIs. Freshman designated hitter
Freddy Sabido (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner [Saint Louis Univ]) and junior 2B
Kyle Brey (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) each had three hits in the first game of Saturday's twin bill.

Austin Goeke (Bordentown, NJ/The Hun School) improved to 4-1 on the season after tossing seven innings of one-run baseball, allowing just three hits, while walking four and striking out eight batters. Sabido came on in relief, throwing two scoreless innings while walking three and striking out two batters during his work on the mound.
Keith Klebart, Ted Shaw, and Cody Doyle had the lone hits of the game for the Pioneers while James Taubl took the loss, falling to 2-6 on the year after lasting just 3.1 innings, giving up ten hits, five earned runs and striking out one.
After a scoreless first inning, the Seahawks scored the first run of the contest. Capra led off with a single to right field. Sabido singled up the middle and moved to second when Capra, was thrown out at third. Pecora ripped a double to center which scored Sabido.
Wagner tacked on two more runs in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead. With one out, Brey singled to the right and moved to third when Mazzio doubled to left field.
Junior RF
Kyle Cala (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) sent an infield base hit to second which allowed Brey to score. After Cala had been forced out second, Capra singled through the left side which plated Mazzio for the second run of the frame.
The Seahawks continued their scoring prowess with two more in the top of the fourth in taking a 5-0. After Pecora had reached on a single to left center, Silvestrone blasted his second home run of the season over the left field wall.
The Green & White added one more run in the top of the seventh as Capra delivered his second RBI of the contest with a single to first in which Godino came around to score from second.
Goeke allowed a single to left from Shaw in the bottom of the second and then held the Pioneers bats at bay over the next four innings until Doyle singled up-the-middle, scoring Klebart.
The Seahawks and the Pioneers conclude their series on Sunday, April 23 with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. from The Ballpark at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, CT.
