Jersey City, NJ – On Tuesday afternoon, the Wagner College baseball team picked up a 9-2 win over the Saint Peter's University Peacocks at Jaroschak Field. With the victory, the Seahawks improve to 7-17 on the season while the Peacocks remain winless, falling to 0-15 on the year.

Kyle Cala (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) went 3-for-5 while junior SS
Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Salesianum School [DE]) went 2-for-5 on the afternoon, with Mazzio driving in three RBIs. It marked the tenth time in Mazzio's career that he has driven in at least two runs or more in a contest and third time this season. Four different Seahawks also had a hit in this afternoon's contest, with sophomore 3B
Will Johnson (Toms River, NJ/Toms River High School East) driving in one and scoring twice.
On the hill, freshman right-hander
Ethan Pritchett (Camden, NJ/Neumann-Goretti) earned his first collegiate win, throwing five innings of four-hit ball, allowing an earned run while walking five and striking out four in his third career start. Freshman
Freddy Sabido (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner [Saint Louis Univ]), who started the game as the team's designated hitter going 1-for-5 with a run scored, threw three innings of three-hit ball, giving up a run and striking out one in posting his first career collegiate save.
Following a scoreless first, the Seahawks erupted for six in the top of the second inning. Sophomore catcher
Phil Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) led off with a single and promptly stole second. Cala singled in Capra for the game's first run. Sophomore 2B
Anthony Pecora (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) reached on an error by the shortstop, giving the Seahawks runners on first and second. Johnson stepped into the box and ripped a single that scored Cala giving the Green & White a 2-0 edge.

Joe Silvestrone (Manalapan, NJ/Freehold Township) was in the batter's box, Johnson and Pecora executed a double steal and Silvestrone drew a walk to load the bases. Senior 1B
Brad Currao (Howell, NJ/St. Rose) reached on fielder's choice, in which Silvestrone was out at second but Johnson and Pecora each scored as Wagner went up 4-0. The final runs of the frame came off the bat of Mazzio, who connected on his second home run in as many days, the fourth of the 2017 season, and fifth of his career.
The Seahawks tacked on a run in the third and fourth, extending the lead to 8-0. Silvestrone drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Capra, who was hit by a pitch. Cala singled and Pecora also walked in loading the bases. In the top of the fourth, Sabido tripled and junior LF
Anthony Godino (Thornwood, NY/Pleasantville) lofted a sacrifice fly to left field, plating Sabido.
Saint Peter's scored its only runs of the contest in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings. Paul Schifilliti singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. James Spadaccini singled that Schifilliti was able to come in and score on. In the bottom of the sixth, with one out, back-to-back singles gave the Peacocks runners on first and second. Schifilliti came through once again for the home team, delivering his second RBI of the contest on a single that plated Nick Ciocco in cutting the Wagner lead to 8-2.
Mazzio came through one final time for the visitors, connecting on his third RBI of the afternoon in the top half of the eighth. With runners on first and second, Mazzio doubled scoring Johnson as Wagner took a seven-run lead and didn't relinquish it.
Saint Peter's starter, Kevin Soriano, was charged with his fourth loss of the season (0-4), going four innings and surrendering six hits and eight runs, seven of which were earned while walking three and striking out two.
The Wagner baseball team is back in action on Wednesday, April 12, as they take on their second straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent, the Rider University Broncs, in Lawrenceville, NJ. First-pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from Sonny Pittaro Field.
