New Haven, CT - The Wagner women's tennis team dropped its first Northeast Conference (NEC) match of the year, falling to the Sacred Heart University Pioneers, 5-2, on Sunday evening.
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 7-4; 2-1 in league play while SHU evens its record to 3-3 and 1-0 in league action.
Junior
Brenda Cumpa (Lima, Peru/Carmelitas [West Virginia State University]) and senior
Madison Pautsch (Costa Mesa, CA/Edison) improved to 3-1 in doubles play, defeating Tori Oates/Nicole Vassalle, 6-0.
Cumpa and Pautsch earned the lone victories in singles play for the Green & White as Cumpa defeated Maggie Glynn, 6-3; 6-1 at No. 5
Pautsch is now within two victories of the all-time singles wins mark, picking up career win No. 26 with her 6-0; 6-2 triumph over Oates at No. 6.
The Seahawks will next be in action on March 14 as NEC play continues for the Green & White, as they take on Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, MD.
