Bethlehem, PA – Trailing by an 8-3 deficit at halftime at Lehigh, the Wagner women's lacrosse team opened the second half with a 5-1 run to make it a 9-8 game. However, that's as close as the Seahawks would get as the Mountain Hawks went on to post a 12-9 win this afternoon at the Ulrich Sports Complex
With the loss, the defending Northeast Conference (NEC) champion Seahawks fall to 0-4 on the season while Lehigh improves its season mark to 2-1.
Wagner's second-half surge began with a 3-0 run, two straight from sophomore attacker
Anna Belle Reilly (Paradise Valley, AZ / Notre Dame Prep), and another by junior attacker
Heidi Colford (Eden Praire, MN / Eden Praire), which made it 8-6.
After Lehigh's Dickey Sondra scored to make it 9-6, the Seahawks countered with Reilly's third goal of the game, on a free position shot at the 22:00 mark, followed by a free position goal from junior midfielder
Lauren Ednie (Verona, NJ / Verona), which made it a 9-8 game with 19:29 left to play.
The Mountain Hawks then outscored Wagner 3-1 down the stretch en route to the 12-9 victory,
Reilly's hat trick paced Wagner, Ednie and Colford finished with two goals apiece, while sophomore attacker
Marjorie Dehm (Baldwinsville, NY / C.W. Baker / University of Vermont) and junior midfielder
April Simmons (Branford, CT / Brandford) added one each. Sophomore defender
Madeline Courtney (Columbia, MD / Marriots Ridge) led the Seahawks with four caused turnovers, while junior defender and co-captain,
Amanda Rey (Turnersville, NJ / Washington Township) was Wagner's leader in groundballs with four.
Allison LeBeau led the Mountain Hawks with her second straight hat trick, finishing with three goals and two assists. Kierstyn Voiro recorded six caused turnovers while posting a goal, assist and two groundballs as well.
Along with LaBeau's five points, Julianne D'Orazio scored two goals and dished two assists.
Lehigh opened the game on a 4-0 run, the first two goals scored by LaBeau and the next two scored by D'Orazio. The Mountain Hawks eventually opened a 6-1 advantage with 8:16 on the first-half clock following Voiro's first goal of the season. The teams traded goals over the remainder of the half as LaBeau's third tally gave Lehigh an 8-3 lead following 30 minutes of play.
The Mountain Hawks finished with a 29-21 edge in shots, 21-20 advantage in groundballs, and 13-9 edge in draw controls. Junior goalkeeper
Kelsey Fee (White Plains, NY / White Plains/Ithaca College) had nine saves for the Seahawks while Lehigh's Taylor Tvedt made eight.
The Green & White are next in action on Thursday, March 9 when they host Albany at Hameline Field. First draw between the Seahawks and the Great Danes is set for 3:00 p.m.
