Brooklyn, NY - The Wagner women's tennis team shutout the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers, 7-0, in Northeast Conference (NEC) action on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Seahawks, who have now swept the season series from the Terriers, stand at 7-2 and 2-0 in league play while SFBK remains winless on the year at 0-8 and 0-3 in conference matches.Â
The Green & White were victorious in No. 2 doubles play as senior
Avika Sagwal (New Delhi, India / Delhi Public High School) and
Rina Baynes (Johns Creek, GA / Chattahoochee) blanked the Terriers' duo of Runsi Patro and Andrea Rojo, 6-0.Â
St. Francis Brooklyn was able its lone victory of the match at No. 1 doubles as the pair of Laura Dimante and Sara Bogdanovic edged freshmen
Vedika Anand (New Delhi, India/The Shri Ram School) and
Melanie Post (Wilmington, NC/John T. Hoggard), 6-4. Wagner claimed the doubles point by default in No. 3 doubles.
Wagner took all six singles matches. Sagwal earned her 20th singles win while earning her ninth win at No.1. Â Fellow senior,
Madison Pautsch (Costa Mesa, CA/Edison) picked up singles victory No. 25 in her career after blanking Rojo, 8-0, in No. 5 play. Pautsch has now reached double-digit wins out of the No. 5 spot, improving to 10-5 all-time and is just three singles victories from tying Brittany Frazza ('09) for the most singles victories in program history.
