Jonathan Norfleet Signs National Letter Of Intent With Men's Basketball For 2018-19 Season

Staten Island, NY – Wagner College head men's basketball coach Bashir Mason announced the signing of 6'2" Virginia guard Jonathan Norfleet from Salem High School to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) on Thursday.

As a junior for the Sun Devils last season under head coach Lloyd DeLoatch, Norfleet led Salem to an 18-6 overall record while leading the Sun Devils to the Atlantic Conference semifinals. Norfleet averaged 16.9 points per game after netting 372 points in 22 contests. Over his three seasons, Norfleet is averaging 18.0 points per game while dishing out 6.0 assists and grabbing 6.0 rebounds a contest.

On November 29, 2016, Norfleet recorded 19 points and pulled down six rebounds in a 67-62 win over First Colonial. On December 16, he scored a team-best 16 points, which included the game-tying layup with two seconds remaining in regulation, as the No. 7-seeded Sun Devils upset the No. 2 seeded Green Run Stallions in overtime, 61-59.

An All-Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, as well as All-Atlantic Conference First Team, the rising Sun Devils' senior was also tabbed to the All-Tidewater Sports Second Team while garnering All-5A South Region Second Team honors.

"I'm thrilled to announce that Jonathan will be a part of our program beginning in 2018-19," commented Mason. "I am confident that Jonathan will blend in well with our team.

"Jonathan brings a dimension from the point guard spot that we haven't seen in a while," associate head coach Mike Babul added. "He is an athletic point guard that can score the ball at all three levels. He can step back and shoot the three while possessing a great mid-range game and has the ability to finish at the basket with either hand. His sheer size and athleticism will allow him to be a great rebounder and defender from his position."

Wagner opens the 2017-18 season this Saturday, November 11 on the road as they travel to NJIT for a 6:00 p.m. tip at the brand-new Wellness and Events Center (WEC).
