Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College men's tennis team remained undefeated as they closed out their fall season with a 5-1 victory over the Siena College Saints on Saturday afternoon from the Wagner College Tennis Courts.
With the win, the Seahawks finished the fall campaign at 3-0 while the Saints suffered their first loss of as they drop to 3-1.
The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the match after securing doubles victories at No. 3 and No. 2. The tandem of sophomore
Dylan Walters (Johannesburg, South Africa / St Stithians Boys' College) and junior
Eric Poland (Fort Meyers, FL/Bishop Verot) match at No. 1 doubles against Guillermo Lopez-Torres and Matt Bellino went unfinished at 4-4.
The Seahawks rebounded in singles action, taking five matches with their sixth, between Poland and Geovanny Mendoza going unfinished with Poland up a set (6-2; 2-2).
Sophomore
Hans Ohrner (Margate, FL/Coral Springs Christian Academy) got Wagner on the board as he blanked Cameron Kirkwood. Walters bested Lopez-Torres, 6-3; 6-1 at No. 2 to give the Seahawks a 2-1 advantage.
Junior
Anatoliy Lashkul (Kiev, Ukraine/High School #78) put the Green & White ahead 3-1 after defeating Sagar Bains, 6-3; 6-4, in No. 1 play. Fellow classmate
Dale Sandy (Durban, South Africa/Kersney College Secondary School) clinched the match for the Seahawks as he was victorious at No. 4 over Muhammad Raza-Sawani, 6-1; 6-4.
For Lashkul, the victory marked his 23rd as a Seahawk and his ninth out of the No. 1 position while Sandy earned his 30th career singles victory and first-ever win out of the No. 4 position. Senior
Charlton Boyd (Shreveport, LA/Loyola College Prep) secured his program-leading 59th career singles win after he got past Bellino, 6-1.
The Green & White will return to the courts in the spring when they are set to take on the University of Delaware Blue Hens on February 2, 2018 in Newark, DE.
