WAGNER-CENTRAL CONNECTICUT SCENE-SETTER
The Wagner football team looks to return to its winning ways when the Seahawks host the Central Connecticut St. Blue Devils in a key Northeast Conference (NEC) Homecoming clash at Hameline Field. The Seahawks enter this contest with a record 2-4 (0-2 NEC) while the Blue Devils, who have won three straight, including a 42-21 win over Penn, come in at 3-3 overall (1-0 NEC).
ABOUT THE SEAHAWKS
Already without All-NEC Preseason selection
Alex Thomson, who suffered a season-ending shoulder injury at Saint Francis U back on September 9, Wagner was also without junior quarterback
Luke Massei in last Saturday's 38-0 loss at Duquesne. During his career-high 205-yard passing day in last week's impressive 37-20 win over Patriot League member Lehigh, Massei suffered an inury and was unable to play on Saturday. Gaining his first career start in his stead was true freshman quarterback
Donald Glenn, who is less than one year removed from completing a highly-decorated scholastic career along the Jersey Shore. Seeing the first extended playing time of his young career, the 6-2, 195-pound Glenn completed 10-of-26 passes for 84 yards and was intercepted twice. Glenn completed three passes to junior tight end
Chris Woodard, for 21 yards, while also connecting twice each with junior wide receiver
D'Erren Wilson and senior wide receiver
John Williams, for 20 and 18 yards, respectively. Offensively, the Seahawks were led by junior running back
Ryan Fulse, who rumbled for 118 hard-fought yards on a career-high 28 carries, as the Monroe College (NY) transfer topped the century mark for the third time in his six-game Seahawk career. For the season, Fulse leads the Seahawks with 533 yards rushing on 106 carries. In addition to his 5.0 yards per carry average, Fulse has rushed for six touchdowns, highlighted by an 83-yard TD jaunt at Columbia (9/9). Defensively, Wagner is led by its four-man linebacker corps. Junior inside linebacker
Quintin Hampton paces the team with 42 tackles, including nine tackles for loss and six sacks. Fellow inside backer, red-shirt junior
Santoni Graham, checks in with 29 tackles while the sophomore outside linebacker tandem of Allah Sessions and
Cameron Gill have record 25 and 23 tackles, respecively.
FRESHMAN PUNTER ERIC SILVESTER NAMED NEC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND TIME THIS SEASON
Wagner College freshman punter
Eric Silvester has earned his second Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week Award this season for his efforts in Saturday's game at Duquesne, the league office announced on Monday. Silvester continued his stellar freshman campaign during Wagner's trip to Duquesne. Not affected by the winds on The Bluff, the first-year Seahawk successfully dropped three of his five kicks inside the Dukes' 20-yard line. Silvester, who leads the league in punting average through the season's first six weeks with 38.0 average, punted five times for a total of 199 yards against the NEC preseason favorites in the Dukes' league lid-lifter. His first boot netted 42 yards following a three-yard return to the Duquesne 15. His next kick was fair caught at the opponent's 12-yard line, which was followed by his most effective punt of the day, a magnificent 44-yard third-quarter effort that was downed at the Duquesne one-yard line. For the season, the left-footed Silvester has punted 31 times for 1,178 yards (38.0), with a career-long of 64 yards at Columbia (9/9). Of those 31 punts, 12 have been downed inside the opponents' 20, seven have been fair caught, and three have traveled 50 yards more, headlined by his career-long effort at Columbia.
