Staten Island, NY | Charleville-Mézières, France – Former Wagner men's basketball standout, Michael Carey (Nassau, Bahamas/Lamar Consolated [San Jacinto College]), has inked his second professional contract, as he will be the newest member of the Étoile de Charleville-Mézières of the Ligue Nationale de Basket (LNB) Pro B.

For Carey, he becomes the second former Northeast Conference (NEC) men's basketball player to be a member of Étoile de Charleville-Mézières, as former LIU Brooklyn Blackbird guard, Martin Hermannsson, was a member of the team during the 2016-17 season before joining Champagne Châlons-Reims Basket in the Pro A  for this upcoming season.

Carey and the rest of the Étoile de Charleville-Mézières squad kick off the 2017-18 season this Friday, October 13, when they will take on Saint-Chamond at home.

The Nassau, Bahamas native begins his first full professional season, which comes on the heels of his signing a contract during the summer with Soles de Santo Domingo of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto in the Dominican Republic.  As a member of the Soles, Carey played in 11 games, averaging 12.0 points per game, 5.5 rebounds, while shooting 47.4 percent from the field and close to 70.0 percent from the charity stripe.

In those 11 games, Carey scored in double figures in eight contests, highlighted by a season-best 22 points in 39 minutes against Metros STGO back on June 16 in which Carey shot 9-of-22, while converting on 50.0 percent from the inside the perimeter.  His second 20-point effort came in a 97-95 victory over Leones SD in which the two-time All-NEC performer dropped 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting for the game.

After concluding his Seahawk career with 27 double-doubles and 13 games of 20 or more points, Carey went on to grab five or more rebounds in eight of his 11 games with the Soles, highlighted by a season-best nine boards against Indios SFM back June 26.
