Thompson Park, NJ - The Wagner women's cross country team competed in its first meet of the 2016 season at the Monmouth University XC Kick-Off in Thompson Park, NJ on Saturday morning.
Out of the six Division I schools at the 4k race, Wagner (132) placed fifth. Host Monmouth (21) took home the team title, followed by Seton Hall (65). Rounding out the six Division I teams that competed were Lafayette (66), St. Francis Brooklyn (129), Wagner (132) and LIU Brooklyn (145).
Freshman
Sara Carney (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph Hill HS) was Wagner's top finisher from the morning's run, placed 24th with a time of 15:55.7.Â
Fellow classmate
Allison Santorelli (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) and senior
Brietta Wilson (Neptune, NJ/Neptune) each placed among the top-50 out of the 83 harriers that competed, finishing with times of 16:42:2 and 17:07:1, respectively.Â
The Seahawks will next run at the Monmouth University Invitational on September 17 at Holmdel Park, NJ.Â
