Staten Island, NY –
The Wagner College women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Delaware State in its final game of a four-game homestand on Friday night at Hameline Field.

"We certainly did not play our best game tonight," said head coach Mike Minielli after the game. "Thankfully, we will have a quick turnaround and get to prove ourselves again this Sunday."

Both teams had a tough time developing scoring chances in the first period. The best opportunity for the Seahawks came 25 minutes into the game, when senior Megan Fritz (Cape Coral, FL, Mariner) took a pass from the left wing into the box and split the defense, but failed to put the ball past Michele Lammers in goal for the Hornets, who blocked the left-footed attempt and sent it out of bounds for a corner kick.

Coming out of the halftime break, the visitors struck twice within five minutes. Savannah Taylor converted on a chaotic play and tapped the ball across the goal line to give the Hornets the lead, and Samantha Barr doubled the Delaware State lead 56 minutes into the contest. The Seahawks tried to answer, but an Amber Coca (Riverview, FL / Bloomingdale) direct free kick from outside the box deflected off the crossbar, as the Green and White were unable to erase the deficit late in the game.

Statistically, Wagner was led by freshman Autumn Clark (Fort Lauderdale, FL / Pine Crest Prep), who had four shots in the game, while sophomore Kristen Bischoff (Massapequa, NY / Massapequa) was second on the team with three attempts. Katie Viscardi (Hazlet, NJ / Mater Dei Prep) suffered her second loss of the season in goal, while contributing six saves.

The Seahawks will travel to UMass Lowell on Sunday at 4:00 pm for their first of three straight road games.
