Stony Brook, NY - With only two games remaining until the start of conference play, the Wagner women's soccer team finished its three-game road stint with a 3-0 loss to Stony Brook on Sunday afternoon.
The Seahawks fired off the game's first shot, but freshman
Maria Nunez (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich) was unable to convert on her attempt. Roughly 17 minutes into the game junior
Jessica Wilm (Shelton, CT / Shelton) in goal made a great save on a shot from close range, but was unable to prevent the Green and White from falling behind on the ensuing corner kick, as freshman Lea Kulmbach gave Stony Brook the lead.
Wagner came out more aggressive in the second half and pushed forward, as Nunez, freshman
Autumn Clark (Fort Lauderdale, FL / Pine Crest Prep), and
Sydney McNutt (Hatboro, PA / Hatboro-Horsham) had shots for the Seahawks, but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities. Stony Brook put the game away with two goals in the last 17 minutes by Manuela Corcho, who took advantage of two counter attacks.
Nunez led the Green and White with two shots, while Wilm saved six shots in net despite suffering her fourth loss of the season.
Wagner will be back in action next Friday, September 23, as they take on the University of Rhode Island at 7:00 p.m. at Hameline Field.
