Staten Island, NY – Senior
Megan Fritz's (Cape Coral, FL / Mariner) first goal of the season was not enough, as the Wagner women's soccer team lost its first home game of the season 5-1 against Toledo on Sunday afternoon at Hameline Field.
The Seahawks started the game backed up into their own half, while the Rockets created their first chances of the game and broke through in the 11
th minute, when Toledo's Kelsey Kraft took a pass by Alena Sidwell into the box and lobbed it into the top right corner. The Green and White responded, but could not find the back of the net, as Fritz's first attempt on goal was turned away.
The Rockets added to their lead early in the second half on goals by Brooke Maletic and Kiersten Johnson. The Seahawks looked to turn things around with 25 minutes remaining, when Fritz was fouled in the penalty area and converted the ensuing penalty kick with a hard shot into the bottom right corner of the net. However, coach Mike Minielli's team was unable to complete a rally and conceded two more goals in the final 12 minutes of the game.
Statistically, Fritz led the way with two shots on goal for the Green and White.
Kim Fetto (Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan) contributed two shots, while freshman
Autumn Clark also added a try on goal.
Wagner returns to Hameline Field this upcoming Thursday, August 25, for a game against St. Peter's University.
