Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College baseball team dropped game one of Saturday's doubleheader, 6-3, to the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights in Northeast Conference (NEC) action.

With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 13-27 overall and 8-15 in league play while the Knights improve to 20-23 and 9-13 in conference tilts.

Junior SS Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) was one of three Seahawks to record two hits in the twin bill opener. Sophomores Anthony Godino (Thornwood, NY/Pleasantville) and Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Salesianum School [DE]) joined the third-year shortstop in recording a multi-hit game.

Mascelli and Mazzio were two of four Seahawks that drove in an RBI in the first game as senior CF Trey Nicosia (State College, PA/State College Area) and sophomore LF Kyle Cala (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) also added an RBI.

Senior RHP Nick Pavia (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph's By The Sea) tossed a season-high 5.1 innings while allowing six earned runs in taking the loss (0-5). Pavia walked one and struck out a batter, the 79th career strikeout for the Staten Island native. Junior Nick DiLeo (Brooklyn, NY/Xavier [St. John's]) pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief of Pavia, giving up just two hits in the seven batters he faced.

Four Knights batters each had two hits with Shane Siebler driving in two runs to pace the offense. FDU's starter, Logan Frati, pitched a complete-game, scattering nine hits, giving up four earned runs while walking two and striking out two in his seven innings.

Fairleigh Dickinson scored four times in the top of the second for the game's first runs. Back-to-back hits setup the game's first run as Joel Roman sent a sacrifice bunt up the third base line, scoring Ryan Brennan.

A walk and the third hit in the frame gave Siebler a chance to bat. The first pitch he saw from Pavia, Siebler singled to left center to increase FDU's lead to 3-0.  Bobby Romano plated the fourth run on a sacrifice fly to center which scored Jason Fatzinger.

Leading off the top of the third, Brennan tripled to left center and came into score on a throwing error by Mascelli, giving the Knights a 5-0 advantage. Wagner responded in the bottom of the fourth. A leadoff walk to senior RF Ben Ruta (West Windsor, NJ/West-Windsor Plainsboro South) and a single by Godino, put the wheels in motion for Wagner. Cala produced the Seahawks first run on an RBI groundout to third scoring Ruta, trimming the deficit to four at 5-1.

The Knights tacked one more run in the top of the fifth as John Giakas homered to left on a 0-1 pitch, extending the lead back to five. The Green & White answered in its half of the fifth.

Mazzio led off with a single through the right side with sophomore 2B Kyle Brey (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) contributing a single up-the-middle as Wagner has the first two runners on. The first pitch that Mascelli saw from Frati, the veteran shortstop was ready for, as he sent an opposite field double down the right field line, scoring Mazzio. Nicosia reached on an infield single to short, scoring Brey, as the Seahawks found themselves trailing 6-3.

The visitors were able to get their leadoff hitter, Evan McDonald, to third with one-out before DiLeo came on in relief of Pavia. The Brooklyn left-hander was able to avoid the big inning, getting two ground balls to end the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Wagner was able to cut the lead down to two, 6-4. With two-outs, Mazzio singled to right center, which scored Cala, who walked. Frati got Brey to swing at the first and fly out to center ending Wagner's rally.
