Pictured Above: Erica Krumbine (Photo by: Jim Hogue)Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College softball team dropped its second Northeast Conference (NEC) doubleheader of the weekend by the scores of 10-2 and 7-1 to Saint Francis University on Sunday afternoon.
Wagner falls to 11-16 with a 0-4 mark in the NEC, while the Red Flash improve to 21-14 overall and 3-1 in the league.
Game One Recap: Saint Francis 10 Wagner 2 In the first game, freshman right fielder
Lauren Serrato (Litchfield Park, AZ/Verrado) registered one of the Seahawk's two hits when she singled up the middle in the first inning. She then made her way around the bases and notched the first run of the game on a series of passed balls and wild pitches from the Red Flash's Ketarah DeVries to put Wagner up 1-0.
Saint Francis notched three runs in the top of the third then another five in the top of the fourth off of a Wagner outfield error, a RBI single and homeruns by Alexis Bower and Hayley Norton.
Junior leftfielder
Hana Gilbert (Valley Center, CA/Valley Center) led off the bottom of the fifth with a double to right center for Wagner's second hit and then scored on an error made by the Red Flash infield to make it 8-2.
The Red Flash never looked back however, as they added another two runs in the fifth inning from a Melanie Martire homer to secure the 10-2 victory in five innings.
Sophomore
Morgan Brown (Buckeye, AZ/Verrado) hurled the first 4.1 innings, giving up 10 runs on eight hits with five strikeouts, in taking the loss.
Game Two Recap: Saint Francis 7 Wagner 1 In the second game, the Seahawks and the Red Flash found themselves scoreless four innings.
A three-run homerun by SFU's Norton gave the Red Flash a 3-0 lead.
Wagner's lone run came in bottom of the fifth inning after freshman shortstop
Erica Krumbine (Freehold, NJ/Saint John Vianney) lead off the inning with a deep single to center field. Junior centerfielder
Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) hit Krumbine home when she laced a double to left center.
Saint Francis tacked on four more runs off a three-run homerun by Madison Cabell followed up by a solo homerun shot over the left field fence by Jordan Seneca in the top of the seventh inning.
The Seahawks produced six hits in game two while the Red Flash recorded 11. Tredway was 2-for-3 with the lone RBI while Krumbine was also 2-for-3 with one run scored.
The two other Seahawk hits came from sophomore first baseman
Maddie Marable (Reno, NV/Earl Wooster) and junior third baseman
Aerika High (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central).
Junior
McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL/Lakewood Ranch) took the loss, giving up seven runs on 11 hits with five strikeouts.
The Seahawks step out of NEC play and travel to Riverdale, NY next to face the Jaspers of Manhattan College for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 7. Game one is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
