Riverdale, NY – A three run seventh inning rally lifted the Wagner College softball team over the Manhattan Jaspers in game two of Monday's doubleheader after dropping a hard fought battle in game one.

With the split, the Seahawks improve to 12-17 on the year while the Jaspers are now 16-10 overall.

Game One Recap: Manhattan 10 Wagner 9

Despite scoring five runs over the last two innings, Wagner's comeback attempt wasn't enough as the Seahawks were edged by the Jaspers, 10-9, in game one.

Sophomores Laura Petri (Warminster, PA/William Tennent) and Maddie Marable (Reno, NV/Earl Wooster) each had two hits for the Seahawks in the opener. Freshman Erica Krumbine (Freehold, NJ/Saint John Vianney) and junior Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) drove in seven of Wagner's ten runs, with Krumbine knocking in four.

Manhattan erupted for six runs on five hits in the bottom of the first. Manhattan's Shannon Puthe led off the game with a triple to left field and scored the game's first run on a RBI single from Elena Bowman. Briana Matazinsky sent a single to right field scoring Bowman as the Jaspers took a 2-0 advantage.

A fielding error by Wagner's second baseman, Karen Prihoda (Hamilton Square, NJ/The Lawrenceville School), allowed Manhattan to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Following an RBI fielder's choice, Emily Cutler delivered a two-run triple down the right field line, scoring Andi Stallard and Victoria Ross which increased the Manhattan lead to 6-0.

Wagner responded in top of the second inning, cutting the Jaspers' lead to 6-4. Marable led off with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error by the Jaspers, giving the Seahawks runners on first and second with no outs. A walk to junior Aerika High (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) loaded the bases for Krumbine. The first-year Seahawk delivered a towering shot over the center field wall, trimming Manhattan's lead to 6-4. For Krumbine, it was her second home run of the season and the first grand slam of her career.

The Jasper's however, plated four more runs on four hits and two Wagner errors to take a 10-4 lead in the bottom of the second.

The score would remain that way over the next three innings before the Seahawks began their comeback attempt.

In the top of the sixth, Wagner closed the gap to 10-7. Tredway grounded out to third which allowed High to score after she reached on a fielding error by Manhattan's Stephanie Reinhardt. Petri drove in two more runs for Wagner on an infield single, which plated both Lauren Serrato (Litchfield Park, AZ) and Krumbine.

After a scoreless bottom of the sixth, Wagner was down to its final three outs. Marable led off the inning with a single, to which Manhattan responded with a pitching change. Junior McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL/Lakewood Ranch) then singled up the middle to put runners on first and second with two outs.

A walk to Krumbine loaded the bases again for the Seahawks and brought up the top of the order. Tredway laced a single up the middle to score two runs as Wagner now trailed 10-9. Serrato, the next batter, was hit by a pitch to reload the bases for the Seahawks. Petri then struck out to end game one of the twinbill 10-9.

Game Two Recap: Wagner 3 Manhattan 1

A seventh inning rally lifted Wagner over the Jaspers to snap its five game losing streak.

Tredway was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and three singles with one run scored and one RBI.

Tredway accounted for half of the Seahawks hits while Marable had two. Prihoda and Krumbine closed out the final two hits with a single each.

Strong Wagner and Manhattan defense allowed a scoreless full five innings.

This all changed in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Jaspers scored on what would be their lone run of the contest. Manhattan's Jenn Vazquez singled down the left field line to lead off the inning and then Bailey came in to pinch run. Matazinsky reached first on a fielder's choice and then advanced to second on a Krumbine throwing error while Bailey reached third. With one out and runners on second and third, Gonsalez grounded out to third base to score Bailey and take a 1-0 lead before Manhattan's Reinhardt flied out to left field to close out the sixth inning.

Two singles from Prihoda and Krumbine started the top of the seventh inning for the Seahawks. Tredway laced a double to centerfield to score Prihoda to tie the game and advance Krumbine to third base. The next Seahawk batter, Serrato, grounded out to third to score Krumbine and take a 2-1 lead. With two outs, Marable entered the batter's box and singled down the left field line to score Tredway. Marable was called out trying to turn her single into a double which concluded game two in Wagner's favor 3-1 over the Jaspers.

The Seahawks returns to the diamond when they travel to Fairfield, CT for a non-conference doubleheader against the Fairfield Stags at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13.
