Men’s Lacrosse Falls 15-6 To Saint Joseph’s

Staten Island, NY – The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team improved to 7-2 on the season and 2-0 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) with a 15-6 victory over Wagner this afternoon at Hameline Field.
 
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 5-6 on the season and are now 0-2 in NEC play.
 
The high-scoring Hawks, who entered the game ranked No. 7 nationally in scoring offense at 13.25 goals per game, scored the game's first 10 goals today before the Seahawks tallied two late first-half scores to make 10-2 game at the intermission.
 
Kevin Forster tallied a game-high five points on one goal and four assists for Saint Joseph's while Hayes McGinley posted four points on two goals and two assists in leading the way offensively.
 
The Hawks held a commanding 21-4 edge in faceoffs with Mike Lanham pacing SJU in this department by going 16-of-18 from the X.
 
Redshirt junior midfielder William McMenamin (Longport, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) and sophomore attackman Andrew Streilein (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) each tallied two goals for Wagner while freshman midfielder Andrew Mulholland (Summit, NJ/ Summit) and junior midfielder Christian McCormick (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) added one goal apiece.
 
Freshman goalie Matt Sefcik (Towaco, NJ/ Morristown Beard School) recorded a career-high 15 saves for the Seahawks before giving way to junior David Hwang (Happauge, NY/Happauge) who came on to play the game's final 2:26 in net. Sefcik's previous career-high save total was 14 which he registered during a 7-6 victory at VMI back on March 8. He has now notched double-digit saves in five games this season. 
 
Saint Joseph's held a 40-28 advantage in shots and led in groundballs, 40-23. Turnovers were nearly even with the Hawks turning the ball over 11 times while Wagner turned it over on 10 occasions. SJU scored on its lone extra-man opportunity while holding Wagner to 0-of-7 in EMOs.
 
Goalie T.J. Dillon recorded eight saves for the Hawks while allowing five goals in 51:42 of action before Pat Dallon came on to allow one goal and make one save over the game's final 8:18.
 
Wagner is back in action one week from today on Saturday, April 9 when the Seahawks travel to Smithfield, RI to meet the Bryant University Bulldogs in a 1:00 p.m. faceoff.
