Softball Drops NEC Doubleheader, Falling To Bryant 3-0, 6-5

Smithfield, RI – The Wagner softball team dropped both games of its Saturday's doubleheader at Bryant, falling 3-0 to the Bulldogs in game one, followed by a tough 6-5 extra innings loss in the nightcap.
 
The Seahawks are now 13-20 on the year and 0-6 in the Northeast Conference while Bryant improves to 5-26 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

In the first game, Bryant scored one run in the first inning off of a Taylor Burger RBI single to right field, driving in Elle Madsen, who had led off things off with a single through the left side.
 
The Bulldogs scored another run in the third, before pushing across their final run in the bottom of the fourth en route to the 3-0 win. Madsen (3-8), allowed one hit with seven strikeouts in going the distance for Bryant.

Junior McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL/Lakewood Ranch) took the loss, falling to 5-8 on the season, allowing three runs on nine hits with one strike out.

Freshman right fielder Lauren Serrato (Litchfield Park, AZ/Verrado) had the lone hit for the Seahawks when she led off the fourth inning with a single through the left side.

Wagner dropped a heartbreaking 6-5 extra innings decision on Bryant's Madsen game-winning RBI double.
 
Bryant put up a quick three runs in the in the first inning, taking advantage of two Wagner errors, before notching another run in the bottom of the third to make it 4-0.
 
Wagner came out strong in the top of the fourth and put up three runs to cut the deficit to one at 4-3. Serrato walked to start the inning and a Jessica Carlucci (Manalapan, NJ/Saint John Vianney) double to right center scored Serrato to get Wagner on the board. The next batter, sophomore Maddie Marable (Reno, NV/Earl Wooster), then laced a two-run home run, driving in Drew Duffy (Phoenix, AZ/Centennial) who pinch ran for Carlucci.
 
Wagner kept the momentum rolling and put up another two runs in the sixth in taking a 5-4 lead. Back to back singles from Marable and freshman second baseman Karen Prihoda (Hamilton Square, NJ/The Lawrenceville School) put runners in scoring position for the Seahawks. Junior pitcher Gina Massaro (Levittown, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) then ripped a single through the left side to score Marable and Prihoda.
 
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Bryant was able to tie it up 5-5 and send the game into extra innings.when Burger tripled to center field to score Rachel Monroe from first base 
 
Bryant secured the 6-5 win on Madsen's big hit in the bottom of the ninth inning.
 
Wagner posted 10 hits from six different players with Marable and Prihoda leading the way as each went 3-for-4 during the contest.
 
Junior centerfielder Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) and Goodale also supplied one hit apiece for the Green & White.
 
The Seahawks will return to action at 12:00 pm on Sunday, April 17 for a doubleheader at Central Connecticut.
