Fairfield, CT –
The Wagner men's lacrosse team received two-goals outings from four different players and freshman goalie Matt Sefcik (Towaco, NJ/Morristown Beard School) saved 14 shots as the Seahawks earned an 11-8 Northeast Conference (NEC) victory at Sacred Heart this evening.

In recording their first NEC win of the season, the Green & White improve to 1-3 in conference play and add to their single-season program record win total in moving to 6-7 overall. The previous single-season record was four wins which was accomplished in 2015. Sacred Heart, meanwhile, falls to 0-4 in league play and 2-10 overall.

The McMenamin twins, redshirt junior attackman Patrick McMenamin (Longport, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) [1g, 2a] and redshirt junior midfielder William McMenamin (Longport, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) [2g, 1a) paced Wagner with three points apiece while senior attackman Billy Battaglia (Madison, NJ/Madison), junior midfielder Christian McCormick (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) and sophomore attackman Andrew Streilein (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) were the other two-goal scorers for the Seahawks on this night.

A pair of Seahawk defenseman also contributed to the balanced offensive effort as sophomore long-stick Andrew Park (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) and freshman Riley Owens (Silver Spring, MD/St. Johns College High School) each recorded their second goals of the season. Also finishing with one goal for the Green & White was redshirt junior midfielder William McMenamin (Longport, NJ/St. Augustine Prep).

McCormick scored Wagner's first two goals within the game's opening seven minutes as the teams were tied 2-2 midway through the opening quarter. SHU took leads of 3-2 and 4-3 on a pair of Alex Dodge goals which were sandwiched around a Battaglia tally as the teams were deadlocked at 4-4 following the opening stanza.

The second quarter was a defensive battle with the lone goal by either team coming on a Streilein unassisted tally with 12:47 left in the opening half. This score was a big one as it gave the Seahawks the lead for good and a 5-4 halftime edge.

Wagner took a 7-5 lead into the fourth quarter on third-quarter goals by William McMenamin and Battaglia, the latter coming on a Patrick McMenamin assist with 4:35 remaining in the third.

Patrick McMenamin then opened the fourth quarter scoring with an unassisted goal at the 12:35 mark which gave the Seahawks their biggest lead of the game at 8-5. After SHU answered with a Max Tuttle goal to make it 8-6, Wagner pulled away on consecutive unassisted scores by defensemen Park and Riley, the latter of which opened up a 10-6 lead with just 7:45 to play.

The Pioneers would draw to within 10-8 on goals by Dodge and Brian Masi before Wagner completed the game's scoring on an unassisted goal out of the stick of Strelein with nine seconds remaining to fashion the final score at 11-8.

Sacred Heart held a 44-30 edge in shots but Wagner was much more efficient, scoring on 11 of its attempts. SHU also held a 27-23 edge in groundballs while the Seahawks won 12-of-23 faceoffs with William McMenamin leading the way by winning 9-of-15 in the X.

Dodge and Tuttle paced SHU in scoring with four points apiece with Dodge's points coming on four goals and Tuttle's coming by virtue of one goal and three assists. In goal, Greg Price was credited with 11 saves for the Pioneers.

The Seahawks are next in action on Saturday, April 22 when they make the long trek to Emmitsburg, MD to meet Mount St. Mary's. Faceoff against the Mountaineers is set for Noon.
