Brooklyn, NY - For the first time since late April of 2014, the Wagner baseball was swept in a four-game series, falling in the series finale at LIU Brooklyn, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Seahawks have now lost eight consecutive games, faltering to 9-18 on the year, and 5-7 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play. LIU Brooklyn improves to 9-18; 4-6 in league action.

Wagner senior left-handed starter Matt Morris (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) suffered the loss, falling to 2-3 on the season after lasting 4.1 innings, giving up three earned runs, seven hits while walking one and striking out four batters.  Fellow senior Nick Pavia (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By The Sea) came on in relief of Morris, throwing 3.2 innings, allowing four hits, one earned run a walk and four strikeouts.

The Seahawks managed five hits in the series finale, as sophomore Kyle Brey (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) drove in the lone RBI for the Green & White.  Senior CF Trey Nicosia (State College, PA/State College Area) also went 1-for-1 with a double and scored the only run for Wagner.

Junior SS Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ/Seton Hall Prep), sophomore Kyle Cala (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) and freshman Phil Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) all had a hit in the second game of the doubleheader.

Luis Arias and Brian Lamboy each had three hits for LIU Brooklyn with Arias responsible for two RBIs.  William Jackson III went 2-for-3 with a run. Blackbirds starter, Anthony Rupp, went the distance, limiting the Seahawks to just a run, five hits, walking two and striking out six batters.

After two and a half scoreless innings, the Blackbirds scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third, when Tommy Jakubowski connected on an RBI infield single to short, scoring Charles Misiano from third after he led off the inning with a single to left.

The Blackbirds added a run in the fourth and fifth to take a 3-0 lead. After a walk and a single, Mark Hernandez sent a sac-fly to center field as Preschel tagged up from third and scored on the play. In the bottom of the fifth, Luis Arias singled through the left side for the third run of the contest as William Jackson III scored from third after starting the inning with a bunt single and advancing to third on a wild pitch.

To start Pavia's second full inning of relief, the veteran Seahawk right-hander was ahead in the count, 1-2, before Arias sent a deep drive over the left field fence as the Blackbirds took a 4-0 lead. Wagner avoided the shutout in the top of the ninth as Nicosia doubled down the left field line and scored off an RBI single to right off the bat of pinch-hitter Brey before Rupp got Lynn to strike out ending the contest.

The Seahawks will return home on Tuesday, April 12 as they welcome Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference member, Saint Peter's University. First-pitch from Richmond County Bank Ballpark is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
