Bronx, NY – In a pitcher's duel between junior RHP Austin Goeke (Bordentown, NJ/The Hun School) and Fordham's Ben Greenberg, the Wagner baseball team was able to score twice in the top of the ninth inning, breaking a scoreless tie in recording a 2-0 victory at Fordham in the opener of a three-game series vs. the Rams this afternoon at Houilhan Park.

With the win, the Seahakws snap a five-game losing streak and improve to 4-7 on the young season while the Rams fall to 6-11.

Senior RF Ben Ruta (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) and freshman 1B Anthony Harrold (Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) each went 2-for-4 with an RBI in giving Wagner its fourth victory of the season.

Junior RHP Austin Goeke (Bordentown, NJ/The Hun School) tossed 6.1 innings of scoreless ball, surrending just two hits, four walks and striking out a career-best nine batters. Senior LHP Paul Mammino (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) relieved Goeke and hurled 1.2 innings of one-hit ball while striking out three en route to his first win of the year and ninth for his career.  Fellow classmate Nick Pavia (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By The Sea) came on in the ninth to strike out two Rams and earned his second save of the year and third of his career.

Sophomore 2B Kyle Brey (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) started the inning with a double down the right field line and was sacrificed over to third on a bunt by junior SS Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ/Seton Hall Prep). Ruta was able to rip a shot just past the reach of Fordham's Joseph DeVito at short to score Brey from third.  After a single put runners on the corners, Harrold singled to center which brought in Ruta for the second run of the contest.

In the bottom of the frame, the Rams were able to get the tying run to the plate with one out after Mark Donadio singled up the middle off Pavia. Pavia was able to post strikeouts of Justin Bardwell and Luke Stampfl to earn the save and cap off Wagner's fourth win of the season.

The same two teams match-up for a doubleheader on Saturday at noon at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Staten Island as senior RHP Mike Adams (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Holy Spirit) and freshman LHP Neil Abbatiello (North Salem, NY/Dobbs Ferry) are projected to toe the rubber for the Seahawks in the twinbill.

Throughout the game tomorrow, there will be volunteers will be on hand to sell baked goods and hot chocolate to help raise funds for those members of the baseball that lost everything due to a house fire over Spring Break
