Temple Women’s Lacrosse Pulls Away For 12-7 Win Over Seahawks

Philadelphia, PA – The Wagner women's lacrosse team used a 4-0 run that bridged the two halves in taking a 7-6 lead before Temple rallied for a 12-7 victory today at Geasey Field.
 
Trailing 6-3 late in the first half, the Seahawks tallied a pair of goals in the final 29 seconds before intermission on goals by senior attacker Stephanie Peterson (Vernon, NJ / Vernon Township) and senior midfielder Shea Gegan (Belmar, NJ/Manasquan) to pull within 6-5 at the break.

Wagner then kept the momentum going early in half number two as Gegan and junior defender Amanda Rey (Turnersville, NJ / Washington Township ) completed the 4-0 run, with Rey's goal putting the Seahawks ahead by a 7-6 count with 22:47 left to play.
 
But this would be the final score of the game for the Green & White as Rachel Schwab's goal at 19:20 tied the game at 7-7 and jump-started a game-closing 6-0 burst for the Owls.
 
Gegan and junior attack Olivia Streilein (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) paced the Seahawks offensively with four points apiece as each notched two goals and two assists while Peterson, Rey and senior attacker Taylor Pastore (Baldwinsville, NY / C.W. Baker) each finished with one goal on the afternoon.
 
Senior goalkeeper Katie Ferraro (Owings Mill, MD/McDonogh) had a strong game for the Seahawks, recording 11 saves, including eight in the second half.

Temple, which competes as a member of the Big East Conference in women's lacrosse, was led by Megan Pinkerton's five points which came on four goals and an assist. Schwaab (2g, 2a) and Megan Tiernan (3g, 1a) finished with four points,  Kirstie Connor scored a pair of goals, while Nicole Tiernan, Brenda McDermott, Morgan Glassford, all added a goal for the Owls. Goalkeeper Jaqi Kakalecik finished with three saves. 

The teams traded goals early on and were tied at 3-3 just over 11 minutes into the game Pinkerton scored three straight goals for Temple over the next 16 minutes, giving the Owls a 6-3 lead with 2:21 left in the first half before Wagner answered with its four straight goals.

The Seahawks are next in action on Saturday, March 5 when they make their long-awaited home opener against another Philly-based school in Saint Joseph's University. First draw between the Seahawks and Hawks at Hameline Field is set for 1:00 p.m.
