Brooklyn, NY - The Wagner men's basketball team (15-8; 8-4), which is in a three-way tie for first-place in the Northeast Conference (NEC) with Fairleigh Dickinson and Saint Francis U, begins a pivotal four-game road trip on Thursday against LIU Brooklyn at 7:00 p.m. The Seahawks will look to even the season series with the Blackbirds, after suffering a tough, heart-breaking 71-70 home setback back on January 14. 

Wagner is coming off a decisive, 72-51, victory over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, as the Seahawks took  season series from the Mount for the first time in four years.  LIU Brooklyn (11-12; 5-7) is currently tied with Robert Morris at 5-7 after falling at Sacred Heart, 98-90, on Saturday.

INSIDE THE SERIES:
  • Thursday evening's contest marks the 101st all-time meeting between the two schools with Wagner trailing in the head-to-head series, 56-44, despite winning six of the last ten games against the Blackbirds.
  • This series first started back on February 9, 1929, with a 37-30 win for the Blackbirds. 

SCOUTING THE BLACKBIRDS:
  • LIU enters play looking to take the season series from the Seahawks, after defeating Wagner, 71-70, back on January 14. 
  • In that contest, Aakim Saintil went for a game-high 27 points, on 7-of-15 shooting while converting on 10-of-11 from the charity stripe in 39 minutes of action.  
  • Jerome Frink added 17 points and seven rebounds while Nura Zanna contributed 12 points and seven rebounds before fouling out.
  • The Blackbirds shot 40.0 from the field while its bench didn't produce a single point, as Wagner outscored its reserves, 33-0. 
  • Since the last time these two teams met, LIU is 3-4 over its last seven contests.
  • Four Blackbirds are averaging in double-figures, three of whom ranked among the top-ten in the conference in scoring. Frink is the team's leader in scoring at 16.9 ppg, good for third in the conference while also pulling down 8.9 rebounds, also ranking third in the NEC. Frink is shooting 50.3 percent from the floor and has a team-high 33 blocks on the season. 
  • Martin Hermannsson is tallying 15.7 ppg, fourth-best in the conference while shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 39.2 from beyond-the-arc.
  • Saintil has netted 13.8 ppg, the eighth-best total in the league while dishing out 4.87 assists a game, only trailing Bryant's Shane McLaughlin in that department. 
  • Lastly, Joel Hernandez, who has started in 22 of LIU's 23 games this season, is adding 11.4 points a contest in his 29.8 minutes of work while grabbing 5.7 caroms a game.

UP NEXT FOR WAGNER:
  • The Seahawks continues their four-game road trip when they travel to Smithfield, Rhode Island to tangle with the Bryant University Bulldogs.
  • Tipoff is set for a 4:00 p.m. start at the Chace Athletic Center. 

THE (MICHAEL) CAREY SHOW:
  • Junior guard Michael Carey (Nassau, Bahamas/Lamar Consolidated [San Jacinto College]) has a team-leading nine double-doubles on the season, the last coming on February 4 when he went for 24 points and 15 rebounds against Fairleigh Dickinson. 
  • Carey ranks third in the Northeast Conference (NEC) in double-doubles.

THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME:
  • The Seahawks have the most home wins in the Northeast Conference (NEC) and best record at 9-3 this season. 
  • Sophomore guard Corey Henson is pouring in 15.0 ppg in 12 games at the Spiro Sports Center this season while shooting 44.1 percent from the floor and 38.0 percent from three-point range in 31.2 minutes a contest.
  • Junior guard Michael Carey is averaging a double-double at home this season, recording 12.8 ppg and 10.3 rpg in 12 games, nine of which he has started.  The Nassau, Bahamas native is shooting 47.3 percent from the field.
  • Under fourth-year head coach, Bashir Mason, the Seahawks are 38-14 at the Spiro Sports Center. 
  • All-time, Wagner is 149-79 since the Spiro Sports Center opened on February 20, 1999, in which the Seahawks played Fairleigh Dickinson to a 78-56 victory. 


ROAD WARRIORS:
  • Wagner embarks on its second, four-game trip of the season, where the Green & White will take on LIU Brooklyn (2/11), Bryant (2/13), Fairleigh Dickinson (2/18) and conclude the road voyage at Central Connecticut (2/20).
  • The first four-game road has this season had the Seahawks face three straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) schools in Rider (W, 65-64 on Dwaun Anderson's game-winning jam), Monmouth (L, 73-54 in the Hawks only non-conference home game), Fairfield (76-64, snapping the Stags home win streak) and concluding in Fairfax, VA against Atlantic-10 member, George Mason (Lost, 71-60).
  • Away from the SSC (Spiro Sports Center), Wagner is 6-5 this year, but in NEC-only road games, the Seahawks are 4-1. 
  • In those contests, sophomore guard Romone Saunders (Temple Hills, MD/Potomac [Mt. Zion Prep]) was averaging 19.5 ppg, 8.0 rpg, in 29.5 minutes, before being sidelined with an injury.  Saunders converted on 56.5 percent from the floor and 61.5 percent from beyond the arc.
  • Junior guard Michael Carey (Nassau, Bahamas/Lamar Consolidated [San Jacinto College]) is tallying 14.8 ppg while grabbing 7.0 rpg in these five games, four of which he has started in. Carey has shot 58.1 percent in these contests while converting on 95.5 percent from the free-throw line (21-of-22) while adding a team-leading seven rejections.
  • Sophomore guard Corey Henson (Upper Marlboro, MD/DeMatha Catholic) is scoring 13.0 ppg and 4.4 rpg while logging 32.8 minutes. Henson, a lethal three-point shooter, is converting 60.0 percent from the outside while connecting on 47.7 percent from the field.
  • Lastly, redshirt senior forward Mike Aaman (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan [University of Rhode Island]) has contributed 12.0 ppg and 6.6 rpg a contest while hitting on 65.9 percent from the field. 


NATIONAL STATISTICS:
  • Through games 2/8/16, Wagner ranks among the top-50 in the NCAA in four statistical categories.
  • The Seahawks are 18th in the NCAA in Offensive Rebounds Per Game, pulling down 13.78 caroms a contest, which leads the conference and trails former-NEC and current Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) member, Quinnipiac, by 3.86 offensive rebounds as the Bobcats are pulling down 17.64. 
  • The Green & White are 21st in the nation in Scoring Defense, allowing 63.9 points per game. Wagner, who leads the conference in scoring defense, have only allowed 6.7 more points than the nation's leader, Little Rock, who has yielded just 57.2 ppg.
  • The Seahawks have done a tremendous job on the boards this season, outmuscling their opponents by a +7.0 advantage, which ranks 27th in the land. Michigan State is the leading, outmuscling its opposition by a +12.8.
  • Lastly, Wagner has averaged 39.70 rebounds per game, 48th among all-Division I programs. Quinnipiac is the nation's leader, pulling down 44.73 caroms a contest, which is only 5.03 better than the Green & White.


CONTROLLING THE GLASS:
  • Wagner has done a tremendous job on the boards this season, leading the Northeast Conference in Rebounding Offense, Rebounding Defense, and Rebounding Margin.The Seahawks have outrebounded its opponents in 17 of 23 games this season.
  • The Green & White had an impressive nine-game stretch  (December 30-to-January 24) in which they were outrebounding their opposition before falling one carom short of its nine consecutive game against Sacred Heart back on January 24.  
  • The Green & White, so far, has outmuscled the opposition by at least 20 caroms in two games this season, most recently at Robert Morris on January 4 (44-24) and at home against College of Staten Island (50-29), back on November 28.

PAINTING A PICTURE:
  • The Seahawks have tallied 705 of its 1,581 from inside the paint.The Green & White have allowed its opponents to score 613 points inside the painted area. 
  • Wagner has allowed 20-points or fewer from inside the paint in five games this season (at St. John's [14], vs. Morgan State [18], vs. American [16]), vs. Central Connecticut [16], and vs. Mount St. Mary's [14])
  • The most points the Seahawks have allowed inside the paint this season is 40 at Saint Francis U back on January 2.


OVER THE LAST TEN GAMES:
  • Wagner is 7-3 in its last ten games, 4-3 at home but 3-0 away from the Spiro Sports Center.
  • The Seahawks are outscoring its opponents by 9.3 points (71.0-61.7)
