Staten Island, NY –
Despite holding a 16-8 shooting edge on the day, the Wagner women's team dropped a 1-0 Northeast Conference (NEC) battle to Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday afternoon at Hameline Field.

The Seahawks gained an advantage in possession early in the game and controlled the action for most of the first period. Freshman forward Autumn Clark (Fort Lauderdale, FL / Pine Crest Prep) had the first big opportunity for the Green and White after 20 minutes of play, but her hard shot from 15 yards out was turned away by Amanda Fitzgerald in goal for the Knights.

Six minutes later, senior midfielder Sydney McNutt (Hatboro, PA / Hatboro-Horsham) headed the ball just wide after a corner kick by Jessica Mouradian (Baldwin, NY / Baldwin). Freshman forward Maria Nunez (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich) had her best chance of the game in the 30th minute, but her try on goal from six yards away was also saved. The Knights took the lead one minute before the halftime whistle on a header by freshman Meghan Griffin.

Roughly 20 minutes into the second half, McNutt received the ball on the edge of the six-yard box, but her attempt was deflected and saved. The Seahawk captain also had the final opportunity of the game for Wagner, with her shot from distance resulting in another save.

McNutt led the team with four total attempts and three shots on goal. Fellow captain Megan Fritz (Cape Coral, FL / Mariner) and senior midfielder Taylor Sackaris (St. James, NY / Smithtown East) had three shots apiece. Sophomore Katie Viscardi (Hazlet, NJ / Mater Dei Prep) made four saves in 90 minutes in absorbing the hard-luck loss..

The Green & White return to Hameline Field on Friday, October 14, for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with Central Connecticut State University.
