Staten Island, NY – The Wagner women's soccer team had multiple promising scoring opportunities throughout the game, but was unable to get past the Central Connecticut Blue Devils, as it fell 1-0 on Friday night at Hameline Field.
.
The Seahawks' first chance of the game came 16 minutes into the contest, when senior Jessica Mouradian (Baldwin, NY / Baldwin) beat her defender to the ball, but her shot from six yards out was deflected for a corner kick. The visitors took the lead ten minutes later on a goal by Carla Jackson.

In the second period, the Green and White fired off two quick attempts, but Mouradian and fellow senior Sydney McNutt (Hatboro, PA / Hatboro-Horsham) missed high. 63 minutes into the game, senior defender Amber Coca (Rivervier, FL / Bloomingdale) had the best opportunity to tie the game for the Seahawks, but her shot from 20 yards away sailed just wide of the top right corner. The Blue Devils defended their lead in the last 30 minutes of the game and denied the Wagner offense, despite allowing eight shots in the second half.

Mouradian, McNutt and freshman Maria Nunez (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich)  led the team with three shots, while freshman Christine Letendre (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) and sophomore Sandra Battista (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) also had attempts for the Seahawks. Sophomore Katie Viscardi (Hazlet, NJ / Mater Dei Prep) suffered the loss, while junior Jessica Wilm (Shelton, CT / Shelton) made one save in 45 minutes of relief in the second half.

The Seahawks return to Hameline Field next Friday, October 21, at 7:00 p.m. to face the Bryant University Bulldogs.
