NEC XC Championship Headquarters
Loretto, PA - The Wagner women's cross country team concluded its season at the 2016 Northeast Conference (NEC) Cross Country Championships, held in Loretto, PA on Saturday morning.
Overall, the Green & White finished ninth among the ten programs that ran the course.Â
Saint Francis U, who hosted this year's championship, placed three runners in the top-10 to claim their first NEC crown since 2004, ending Sacred Heart's quest for a four-peat. Central Connecticut placed second (63 points) followed by the Pioneers (76). Rounding out the finishes were Bryant (97), Robert Morris (147), Mount St. Mary's (176) Fairleigh Dickinson (202), St. Francis Brooklyn (207), Wagner (218) and LIU Brooklyn (247).
Freshman
Sara Carney (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph Hill HS) was the top finisher for the Green & White, finishing her first NEC Championship run with a time of 21:22.4 in 32nd place.
Among the other notable performances from Saturday's race included senior
Brietta Wilson (Neptune, NJ/Neptune), who crossed the finish line at 22:46.6. Freshmen
Alexandra Elder (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) and
Allison Santorelli (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) finished back-to-back, posting times of 23:00.2 and 23:02.8, respectively. Â Fellow classmate
Ashley Ducharme (Coventry, RI/Coventry) rounded out the racers for Wagner with a time of 25:56.9.
