Staten Island, NY-  The Wagner men's basketball team concludes the third week of Northeast Conference (NEC) play as it welcomes the Central Connecticut Blue Devils to the Spiro Sports Center on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff will follow the women's game, as they square off against the Central Connecticut women at 1:00 p.m.

The Seahawks (10-6; 3-2 NEC) will look to bounce back after suffering their first home loss of the season, falling to the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, 71-70, on Thursday evening. Central Connecticut (1-15; 0-5 NEC) enters Saturday's contest looking for its first conference victory after falling to Sacred Heart, 80-78, in overtime at home.

INSIDE THE SERIES:
  • Saturday afternoon's game marks the 42nd meeting between Wagner and Central Connecticut, with the Seahawks holding a 21-20 edge in the head-to-head matchup.
  • This series began in 1939-40 when Central Connecticut was called New Britain. CCSU took the inaugural contest, 51-36. It took 42 years for the two programs to meet again, on December 8, 1988, in which CCSU defeated Wagner 71-54.
  • Last season, both teams split their regular-season matchups, with each winning on each other's home courts.

SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS:
  • Central Connecticut is in the midst of a seven-game losing streak, after falling to instate rival, Sacred Heart, 80-78 in overtime on Thursday evening.
  • Over the past two years (2014-15 and 2015-16), the Blue Devils are just 6-41.
  • Saturday afternoon's contest is the Blue Devils lone road game before Central kicks off a four-game homestand starting on January 21 against the defending Northeast Conference (NEC) champions, Robert Morris.
  • The Blue Devils feature two players that average double-digits, in freshman guard Austin Nehls (12.3 ppg) and junior guard Khalen Cumberlander (12.0 ppg).
  • Both guards are averaging four rebounds a game with Nehls logging nearly 36.0 minutes.
  • As a whole, Central Connecticut is shooting close to 40.0 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from beyond-the-arc.
  • The Blue Devils are connecting on 65.1 percent from the charity stripe.

COMMON FOES:
  • Between Wagner and Central Connecticut, there are five common opponents that each has faced: Maine, UMass Lowell, LIU Brooklyn, Bryant and Sacred Heart.
  • Wagner is 4-1, with the lone setback coming on Thursday evening against LIU Brooklyn while CCSU is just 1-4, with their lone win of the season against UMass Lowell, 83-79, back on December 18.

WAGNER ALL-TIME VS. CONNECTICUT DIVISION I SCHOOLS:
  • Wagner holds an all-time mark of 64-57 against all Division I Connecticut schools (Central Connecticut, UConn, Fairfield, Hartford, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart and Yale.)
  • The only Connecticut school that Wagner hasn't faced is Hartford.

NEXT UP FOR WAGNER:
  • Wagner will make the short trip across the Verrazano Bridge as they take on 2015 NEC runner-ups, St. Francis Brooklyn at the Pope Physical Education Center on January 21.
