Staten Island, NY –
The Wagner women's soccer team fell to Columbia University 3-0 in the home opener at Hameline Field on a scorching Sunday afternoon, dropping its record to 1-4-0 on the season. Columbia picked up its first win of the year to improve to 1-1-0.

It was an even first half between the two squads as neither were able to get on the scoreboard. The Seahawks were able to put up three shots, two of which were on goal but stopped by the Columbia keeper, Allison Spencer, while the Lions recorded 12 shots, four of which were saved by sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Wilm (Shelton, CT / Shelton).

The Lions got on the board in the second half (57th min.) on a pass by Elly McGuffog to Natalie Neshat, which marked her first collegiate goal of the season and the first goal for Columbia in the 2015 season.

The second goal came nearly five minutes later, in the 61st minute, when Holly Neshat fed Emma Anderson a nicely-placed ball which she was able to get past Wilm to the left side of the net. Columbia's Caroline Militello then rounded out the scoring, recording the Lions' third goal of the game when she was able to score on a kick that went over Wilm's head, just below the cross bar, in the 77th minute.

Wagner had a couple of chances in the second half, recording five shots, three of which were saved by Spencer. Junior defender Amber Coca (Riverview, FL / Bloomingdale) had a header 16 minutes into the second half in the box that Spencer was able to corral.

The Seahawks posted eight shots total, while Wilm came up with a career-high 10 saves on the day.

Wagner hits the road next when the Seahawks meet Stony Brook under the lights at 7:00pm on Friday, September 4.
