Staten Island, NY – The Wagner Women's soccer team opened up the 2015 season by dropping a 2-0 decision to Fordham at the University of Maine tournament Friday evening.
 
The contest remained scoreless throughout the first half with a strong Seahawk defense but the offense were unable to reach the back of the net going against a solid Ram defense.
 
It was in the second half when Fordham got on the scoreboard in the 63rd minute. The Ram's Kate McDonnell found Jessica Widmann right in front of the goal where she was able to send the ball right over Seahawk goalkeeper Kaitlin Flaherty's (Southfield, MI / Wylie Groves) hands to the left post.
 
The Ram's found the back of the net again in the 87th minute to make it 2-0 with just three minutes remaining in the contest. Fordham's McDonnell was credited with the assist to Kristina Maskuti from 10 yards out inside the left post.
 
During the match, 16 Seahawks saw action while Flaherty posted a career-high seven saves.
 
Wagner returns to action on Sunday, August 23, for an 11:00 a.m. contest against Fairfield.
