ResultsStaten Island, NY – The Wagner women's tennis team defeated the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore (UMES) Hawks, 4-0, on Thursday morning at the Wagner Tennis Courts.
With the win, the Seahawks improve to 7-6 on the season while the Hawks fall to 1-12 on the year.
The Green & White secured the first overall point in the match after sweeping all three doubles contests. Junior
Marina Rull Valvieso (Barcelona, Spain/IES Antony Cumella [Tarleton State]) and sophomore
Madison Pautsch (Costa Mesa, CA/Edison) picked up their eighth win as a pair after defeating Melegua King and Petra Jerabkova, 8-1, out of the #1 position.
The eight wins posted by Rull Valvieso and Pautsch are the second most among Northeast Conference (NEC) pairings as Sacred Heart's Katie DeRienzo and Nicole Rydzewski have also posted the same amount of wins. Bryant's Ashanti Campfield and Linnea Sjoberg hold a 12-4 record in doubles matches.

Carolyn Gibson (Windermere, FL/IMG Academy) cruised to an 8-1 victory in #2 as they defeated Aleksandra Manolova and Reine Fowajuh while freshman
Samantha Hodges (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy) and senior
Rachel Jurgielewicz (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) blanked DaTonya Price and Crystal Crook, 8-0.
In singles action, Hodges, Pautsch and Jurgielewicz were victorious in straight sets over their opposition with Jurgielewicz securing her sixth victory in dual matches on the season.
Wagner is scheduled to host Manhattan College for a home, non-conference match on Friday, April 10.
