Score SheetSanta Clara, CA – The #17(T) Wagner (8-4) women's water polo team defeated #19 Santa Clara (12-8) 12-4 at the University of Santa Clara's Sullivan Aquatic Center in a Monday night matchup.
Offensively the squad returned to form after a three game scoring decline at the Aggie Invitational where the team's goals per game average was 4.33, down from the previous eight game established mark of 11 goals per competition.
The contest, the third true road game for the Green & White, began as a close affair with the Seahawks and Broncos exchanging three goals apiece within in the first four and half minutes. Senior co-captain
Jessica Burdge (Stockton, CA/ St. Mary's) got the Green & White started on the scoring end with a man-up strike off a set-up pass from fellow senior co-captain
Rachel Burns (Auckland, New Zealand/ Diocesan). Freshman
Kimberly Watson (Pointe-Claire, Quebec, John Rennie) and
Lily Doerfler (Annapolis, MD/ Broadneck) delivered a goal each to accumulate three early goals.

Gabryel Oloapu (Auckland, New Zealand/ Diocesan) assist to give the surging Seahawks a 5-3 advantage after the first stanza.
Santa Clara cut the deficit to one with 5:15 remaining in the second, it looked as if the score would hold till halftime until junior center
Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia/ Mountain Creek) netted a goal with only 40 ticks left on the clock.
Lundgren, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's (MAAC) third leading goal scorer, erupted in the third stanza as she punished the Broncos with three scores in the period. The Australia native delivered on an array of moves and strikes as she would not be denied in the quarter. Fellow center Doerfler and freshman
Elise Begg (Newbury Park, CA/ Newbury Park) each added a goal while Rodriguez registered three assits in the third quarter raising the Seahawk lead to seven, as the score read 11-4.
Green & White sophomore goalie
Emily Riddle (Alberta, Edmonton/ Dr. E. P. Scarlett) and the defense stifled Santa Clara's attack throughout the second half. An early fourth quarter score from Lundgren raised the final score to 12-4.
The Seahawks will get their first day off on their California tour before a doubleheader in Bakersfield, CA as the squad is slated to compete against CSU Bakersfield and Azusa Pacific on March 11.
