ResultsEmmitsburg, MD- The Wagner women's tennis team fell to the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers, 5-2, on Friday afternoon at the Mount Tennis Courts in a Northeast Conference (NEC) matchup.
The Seahawks (5-4; 2-2 NEC) won two of the three doubles matches to take the point. Junior
Marina Rull Valvieso (Barcelona, Spain/IES Antony Cumella [Tarleton State]) and sophomore
Madison Pautsch (Costa Mesa, CA/Edison) edged The Mount's Jennifer Smith and Kelly Smith, 8-7 (7-5) in #1 Doubles as Rull Valvieso and Pautsch picked up their sixth win of the season as partners while remaining undefeated in NEC play at 3-0.
The pairing of freshman
Samantha Hodges (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy) and senior
Rachel Jurgielewicz (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) defeated Danielle Nguyen and Erin Benefiel, 8-5, as they improve to 2-1 on the season in doubles play.
Rull Valvieso picked up her sixth dual victory of the season and remains undefeated in conference action (3-0) as she defeated Benefiel, 6-2; 6-1. The Mountaineers took the next five matches, four of which came via straight set decisions.
The women's tennis team will be back in action on March 29 as they begin a four-match homestand, starting with a non-conference tilt against the University of Hartford at 2:30 p.m. from the Wagner Tennis Court.
