Emmitsburg, MD - Today marks the end of the 2014-2015 Northeast Conference (NEC) regular season and one thing is certain, the Wagner Seahawks men's basketball team will be apart of the Madness, which begins on Wednesday, with the quarterfinal round of the 2015 Northeast Conference Tournament.

The Seahawks have an opportunity to improve their seed when they battle the defending NEC champion Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers at Knott Arena in a 2:00 pm tip-off. Wagner can finish no higher than the fifth seed and no worse than the eighth seed while the the Mountaineers can finish no lower than the No. 4 seed.  

These two teams will be squaring off for thne 53rd time with the Mount holding a 33-19 edge in the head-to-head series. Wagner is 7-3 in their last 10 matchups against the Mountaineers, including a 85-83 double overtime triumph back on January 5, in which senior guard Marcus Burton (Charlotte, NC/David W. Butler) tallied a career-high 38 points on 13-of-24 shooting from the, field while also hitting 9-of-10 from the charity stripe.

Below are the 2015 Northeast Conference Playoff Scenario (based after 2/26 games): 


St. Francis Brooklyn has clinched the #1 seed in the NEC Tournament.
SFBK, RMU, BRY and MSM will all host NEC quarterfinal round games.
RMU will claim the #2 seed with a win over SFU or a BRY loss to SFBK. BRY can earn the #2 seed with a win and RMU loss. RMU can finish no lower than the #3 seed.
If BRY loses to SFBK and MSM beats WC, then RMU is #2, MSM is #3 and BRY is #4.
MSM can finish no lower than the #4 seed.
If SFU beats RMU, then SFU is the #5 seed.

If SHU beats LIU, then SFU is #5, SHU is #6, WC is #7 and LIU is #8.

BURTON CONTINUES HIS ASCENSION...
  • In last Saturday's 60-47 win at LIU Brooklyn, Wagner senior guard Marcus Burton (Charlottte, NC/David W. Butler) recorded his 15th straight double-digit scoring game and his 10th 20-point effort this season as the fourth-year shooting guard tallied 20 points on 9-of-21 shooting from the field.
  • At Robert Morris on Thursday evening, Burton eclipsed Harry Orlando's ('60) total of 1,117 points as Burton has sole possession of 30th place with a total of 1,118.
  • Next up next for Burton, is Oliver Featherston's mark ('69) of 1,129 followed by Durell Vinson ('04) total of 1,144.

ONE-SIDED DEFEAT...
  • The 32-point defeat at Robert Morris on Thursday is the second-highest margin of defeat the Seahawks had to endure this season in over three months when they dropped the season-opener at #14|14 Maryland 82-48.

ONE-SIDED VICTORIES...
  • Wagner's 31-point victory (86-55) over CCSU on Jan. 31 was the largest margin of victory against a Division I and NEC opponent this season for the Seahawks, and the most by Wagner since December 3, 2011 when the Green & White recorded a 40-point, 90-50 triumph at the Spiro Sports Center over St. Francis Brooklyn.
  • Wagner defeated Division III SUNY Old Westbury by 34 (83-49) in the home opener back on November 20.
ROAD BLOCK...
  • Wagner is just 2-13 on the season in games away from the Spiro Sports Center.
  • Prior to their 60-47, wire-to-wire triumph at LIU Brooklyn on February 21st, the Seahawks had dropped their last three road contests, as their first road victory came back on January 17th in Hackensack, NJ against the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights.
  • The Green & White are being outscored, 76.7-to-64.5 on the road while being held to just 30.4 percent shooting from long rang as opposed to 40.6 from their opponents.
  • Senior guard Marcus Burton is the lone Seahawk averaging double-figures away from Staten Island, as the fourth-year guard is pouring in 15.7 points per game in 14 road contests.
