Sofranko)Moon Township, PA – Junior guard Rodney Pryor scored a game-high 25 points to lead four players in double figures as Robert Morris earned a 91-59 Northeast Conference (NEC) victory over Wagner tonight at the Sewall Center.
The Seahawks, who have already clinched a berth in the upcoming Northeast Conference Tournament, can no longer earn a top four seed in the eight-team tourney, ensuring that Wagner's first-round contest will be on the road.
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 8-9 in NEC play and 10-18 overall, while the Colonials, who entered the game tied for second in the league standings, improve to 11-6 in conference and 15-14 overall. The Green & White close out the regular season with a 2:00 p.m. tip off on Saturday at defending league champion Mount St. Mary's.
Wagner, which trailed 44-29 at halftime, was led in scoring by a trio of freshmen in guard
Corey Henson (Upper Marlboro, MD/DeMatha Catholic), who tallied a team-high 10 points, along with guard Aaron Edmead (Deer Park,, NY/Deer Park) and forward
Japhet Kadji (Douala, Cameroon/Gulliver Prep/IMG Academy) who finished with eight points apiece.
Yet another member of the Seahawks' talented freshman class, guard Jo Jo Cooper (Wilmington, DE/Concord), added seven points and a team-high three assists. Senior guard
Marcus Burton (Charlotte, NC/David W. Butler), the NEC's leading scorer, notched six points on a tough 2-of-11 shooting night, as did junior forward
Mike Aaman (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan/Rhode Island), who also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. Burton, however, eclipsed
Harry Orlando ('60) career point mark as the fourth-year guard is in sole possession of 30th place as he stands with 1,118 career points.
Rebounding was one of the lone bright spots on the evening for Wagner as the Seahawks held a 42-34 edge on the glass. Robert Morris, which received 20 and 15-point outings by Marquise Reed and Lucky Jones, respectively, outshot the Seahawks 54%-31%.
