Staten Island, NY – The Wagner women's water polo team is set to host their first home game of the season, tomorrow February 21 at noon as they take on #20 ranked Hartwick here in the Spiro Sports Center.
Wagner enters Saturday's contest with an overall record of 5-2 while the Hawks are 6-8.
The Seahawks are coming off two impressive wins at the Bison Invitational last week, which saw the team knock off previously ranked #10 Long Beach State, 5-3, and cruised to a 19-5 victory over fellow Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) member, Virginia Military Instiute (VMI).
Hartwick went 4-0 in the same Bison Invitational as well claiming notable victories over previously ranked Marist and host Bucknell.
The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) National Top 20 Poll rewarded both the Seahawks and the Hawks for their play over the weekend as both schools made the cut. The Green & White were slotted 17th, the highest in school history as Hartwick was positioned in a tie for the final spot.
The Seahawks and Hawks are no stranger to one another with the two New York institutions having faced-off twice last season as Wagner squeaked out two close victories by the count of 10-8 and 10-7. Hartwick, however, has a commanding edge on the all-time series, 10-to-2.
The Seahawks will trot out two-time reigning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Week
Emily Riddle (Edmonton, Alberta/ Dr. E.P. Scarlett) in the net as she comes off a dominating weekend posting a goals against average of 5.67.
The Green & White will look to the finishing ability of junior center
Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia/ Mountain Creek) who sits atop the MAAC leaderboard in goals having tallied 22 in seven games.
