Staten Island Advance Recap Brooklyn Heights, NY – Senior forward Jalen Cannon led all scorers with 26 points and 12 rebounds and Northeast Conference (NEC) leading St. Francis Brooklyn overcame an early one-pont second-half deficit in handing Wagner an 83-66 defeat on Thursday night at the Pope Physical Education Center.
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 8-16 and 6-7 in conference play while the Terriers are 17-9 and a league-leading 11-2 in conference tilts.
Three Seahawks finished in double-figures, led by freshman guard
Romone Saunders (Temple Hills, MD/Mt. Zion Prep) who tossed in 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor while connecting on 3-of-4 from the outside. Senior guard
Marcus Burton (Charlotte, NC/David W. Butler) added 12 points, seven of which came in the first half of play, while freshman guard
Corey Henson (Upper Marlboro, MD/DeMatha Catholic) finished with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field.It was a Henson three-pointer at the 17:54 mark of the second half that gave the Seahawks their last lead of the game at 37-36.
Cannon shot 9-of-18 from the field, and connected on 5-of-9 from the outside in pacing the Terriers, junior forward Amdy Fall finished with 13 points and four blocks while Brent Jones added 10 points and 10 assists in the victory.
St. Francis Brooklyn opened the game on a 15-2 run over the first 5:22 to take the early advantage as the stingy Terrier defense held the Seahawks to just 1-of-3 to start while the home team converted on six of their first ten attempts.
The Terriers were able to take their largest lead of the contest, 23-9, after senior Brent Jones converted on a mid-range jumper. From that point, Wagner responded with a furious barrage, as the visitors erupted on a 21-10 run that brought them to the halftime break trailing by three, 33-30.
Over the final 10 minutes, the Seahawks converted on 9-of-15 from the field while hitting 2-of-4 from beyond the arc, which included a pivotal three pointer from freshman guard
Aaren Edmead, who brought the lead down to seven, 28-21. For the remainder of the stanza, Wagner held the Terriers to just 3-of-16 shooting and just 1-of-6 from long range during this stretch.
For the half, the Seahawks shot an efficient 52.0 percent from the floor and 3-of-7 from long range (42.9%) while outrebounding the Terriers, 19-18 and 15-to-8 on the defensive glass. The Terriers were able to capitalize on 11 Seahawk turnovers which translated to 12 points for the Brooklyn-based school while the Pride of Staten Island were able to get 12 points from their bench, five of which coming from Cooper.
Wagner opened the second of play on a 9-6 output before the Terriers regained control of tempo, sparking a 23-to-11 output that saw the lead balloon to 12, 62-50 with 7:26 left. Over the next four minutes, the Green & White were able to trim the lead down to seven, 69-62, after Saunders completed two free-throws.
The Terriers closed out the game on a 14-to-4 run that saw the home team went 4-of-4 from the field and holding the Seahawks to just 1-of-5 from the field down the stretch. Wagner shot 47.2 percent from the field while the Terriers shot 48.3 percent and outmuscled the Seahawks, 39-to-31.

as they welcome Fairleigh Dickinson to the Spiro Sports Center at 4:00 pm.
